Post Leo Kottke

Wow, I just got home from seeing Leo Kottke play a little bar in Bloomington, Indiana. I can't believe what some people can do with a guitar.

I truly respect you folks who don't use picks.

Doc.

When you go to a Kottke show, don't they tell you to "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain".?

I made myself feel better years ago regarding Kottke by one simple realization:

I am convinced he is an alien.

I can't even make my face do some of the things his does, let alone my guitar.

I saw him on "Sessions at West 54th Street" last week. You just can't help but stare. His right hand is barely moving, yet you hear music, and you know he must be doing something because his left hand is flying up and down the fretboard of a twelve string, no less. What an amazing talent.

Alien is an reasonable an explanation as any!

Picks. Can't stand 'em. Give me a strong, well formed fingernail anyday.

I have been trying for months to figure out "Last Steam Engine Train". I get into it and there is one spot where the Tab I am using shows that the fretting is not much more than an A chord.....but for the life of me I don't know how he makes it sound like it does on the record....

amazing. And very very frustrating.

I think I'm going to go work on Polly Wolly Doodle All the Day.

Cool

Every time I see Leo or Tom Bresh play I want to use my guitars for firewood and take up playing the kazoo.

Inspire me???

Yeah! They inspire me to quit.

Funny. When Leo was being intrtoduced, the MC asked the Audience "How many of you were inspired to learn the guitar from a Leo Kottke recording?" Not only did nobody raise their hand, one guy shouted "Put my guitar down is more like it!"

Wonder what a Koa kazoo would sound like?
