Default GS Mini"plinks"

After a lot of GAS I bought a GS Mini (with the ES Go pickup) last Saturday and played the snot out of it for five days. It has now developed a "plink" on the G string. Does this indicate a needed truss rod adjustment or other set-up or is it just a string issue?

I've seen here on AGF that changing to 80-20s will reduce the brightness but don't think that will help the "plink" problem. Also, are they referring to coated or uncoated 80-20 strings?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Not sure what a "plink" is Can you be more specific?

I wouldn't touch the truss rod just yet. I even have light gauge D'Addarios (uncoated EJ16s) tuned down 1/2 step and still have no buzzing or other issues. The GS Mini is an amazing little guitar.

I would think that issues that effect only ONE string would have to be related to the nut or the saddle. Does the G string tune up smoothly or change in little chunks ? If it does, the G string groove on the nut might need a little filing.

I guess you'd have to hear it in person. If I were you, I'd have it checked out by a guitar tech.

Agree John's advice, still not quite sure what a plink is though!

Re strings, it's changing from 80/20's to PB's that'll reduce the brightness, not the other way round. The GSmini should already have come shipped with Elixir coated 80/20 nanoweb mediums, these can be switched out for P/B's to mellow the tone a bit.

BTW...80/20's elixir is what came on your GS Mini. If, you would like to reduce the brightness use elixir PB nanoweb mediums strings. Also, by doing this you may get rid of your plinky G string problem.....Good Luck! PS: this worked on my GS Mini BTW....

Does this "plink" happen only when the G string is played open? Or does it happen when fretted? At all frets, or just one, or just a few?

You really want to narrow this before you start adjusting, filing or even changing strings.

Glad to hear you like your mini so well. I love mine!
