Smile Kick Starting a NEW CD!

Several of you have inquired about the possibility of a new CD over the past few years and, honestly, I can’t express the appreciation I feel for the interest and support for that first CD. Well, it has taken me five years (whew)... and I am pleased, relieved, and a bit anxious to announce that my second CD, Summer Sands & Sleeping Bears is just about finished. Balancing the working life with recording, producing and planning a CD can get pretty crazy as I am sure many of you can relate to. It appears I have survived and Summer Sands & Sleeping Bears is just about a done deal.

There are a couple of AGF connections on this new CD:

-Our very own Steve Reinthal, down under fret board wizard and audio engineer extraordinaire, is finishing up the mastering of the tracks right now. He also lends his ethereal playing to one track.

-Two of Tim McKnight’s guitars and one of Simon Fay’s guitars were used to record several tracks on the CD. I also used a guitar made by the late Lance McCollum. In all seven different guitars were used in recording the CD.

-Several of you have also been willing guinea pigs in lending your ears, time and thoughts about early and late version of tunes ... Much thanks to all!!

I have decided to conduct pre-sales in what seems to be an increasingly popular manner, KickStarter.com. This also gives me the opportunity to offer some cool pre-sale packages that include prints of the original artwork created for the CD cover by artist Glenn Wolff.
If you are interested please click on this link:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...s-cd?ref=email

When the smoke clears the physical CDs should ready to ship by mid-June!
Any thoughts or suggestions regarding the KickStarter campaign will be heartily welcomed!

Kickstarter's a great deal. My son's Austin based band used kickstarter to help with fund generation and they got almost 30% more than their target to record their CD.
Good luck with your release!

This album is a real treat.
The tracks on which you've collaborated with the other players take it to a whole extra dimension but the entire disc retains a guitaristic consistency of the unmistakeable Filkins-ism.

The artwork looks beautiful James.
The tracks are sounding wonderful too!! Nearly done...

Oh, James you are so very welcome. Cotten will enjoy seeing this thread since he chose his AGF award guitar to be designed after the McKnight Diamond guitar.

Tim and I consider it an honor that you played the McKnight Diamond on your CD.

I can't wait for you to share a time and date of the PBS show "Road Trip Nation." I really wanna hear your talent on the beginning of that show.
We have vested interest there.

You may hear from a few other AGF McKnight customers since I shared this link with them as well.

Indeed I am excited about your new recording, James, and can't wait to hear it. Yes, my AGF Award Guitar was strongly based on the McKnight Diamond guitar, which I fell in love with at first pluck! Tim and Mary did a marvelous job of replicating it's tone using different materials for mine, and I'm a very happy camper.

I also had the opportunity to sample a wonderful Simon Fay guitar, and your using instruments from several outstanding builders will make this project especially interesting to those of us who appreciate their individual characters.

I look forward to having time to explore this further. Thanks for sharing your good news!

Ohhhh, very cool!

I am going to share this with the McGit family. It's fun to hear the McKnight Cigar guitar in the background.

You are right about Simon's guitars Cotten. I still miss that prototype. It had some major mojo. Had the nut size been smaller I never would have parted with it. Of course The Diamond has some mighty mojo as well!

We made the final decision on which tunes to include and which to leave out, then Steve finished the mastering and sent the files on for production, not without some uploading/technical issues of course. Glenn Wolff is finishing up the CD jacket layout and art as I write this... sooooooooo the CD is almost complete. I also was able to put the title track up at Band Camp for listening.
Thanks again to all of you AGF backers for the support
