Default Howdy from Texas.

I've been a member here for a while as a lurker, I really enjoy reading the posts, especially the build posts.

I bought the DVD set from learn and master guitar and have been spending alot of time practicing. I still can't strum very well but I can play notes pretty good.

I live in Plano Texas, which is just North of Dallas

After looking at the build threads, it is now my dream to build a guitar.

Welcome, Kevin, from another Texan (San Antonio). There are a number of us here, including a bunch from your neck of the woods...as you'll know from your lurking, I'm sure.

I see you're taking the opposite approach to learning from mine: I just learned chords and strumming first (of course, that was well over four decades back). But if you're already getting proficient at single-note picking, you may have a future as a bluegrasser.

Cheers,

Dirk

Thanks Dirk, in the L&M set they start you off picking notes, they also show a chord block above the measures, but I just haven't figured out how to put the two together yet.

The music I like to listen to is Americana country, guys like Ray Wylie Hubbard, Chris Knight, 1100 Springs etc.

Welcome Kevster,
Welcome, I lurked for a while at first also, but being part of the conversations is great. I share your interest in Ray Wylie Hubbard's
music. Where I live, that style of music does'nt get much airply. Can you
suggest any other artists playing in a style similiar to RWH. (esp his last 2 albums)
Thanks Bob

Welcome Kev from another "nooby" on the site. I'm in the San Antonio area. Keep up the consistent practice even if it's just a short amount of time/per day. It adds up!

Thanks for the welcomes, Piker, I'm not sure of any that are just like Ray, but out of the artists I listed Chris Knight is my favorite he has a style unlike any artist I know, I've been to several of his shows here locally. He is from Kentucky, here's a sample...

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to the AGF! Glad you have joined up.

My wife and I lived in Plano from 1970-73 when we were first married. The place looks a lot different now, of course.

Yea, Plano has changed quite a bit since then, I'm not sure if you remember Frisco, that town has really grown up!
