Is the 714ce perfect?
In terms of taylor/martin. I put a bone saddle in a 2004. It tamed the brightness and gave it a little more punch and clarity. What im saying is, to me in terms of tone and playability, it has what I love about taylor, as well as what I love about martin. Is it perfect? The complete loss of GAS backs up my feelings on the subject.

yes bone can take some of the higehr end brightness or brittle tone away vs the tusq. I had an 05 814CE that IMO made to mellow when I changed to bone so I switched it out right away. That particular guitar was already pretty warm toned and thought the bone would just enhance what it had but it actually made it too warm.

Yea the bone def took that brittleness away. It also gave the bass a little more punch though. Those notes just jump off, I swear it sounds like a martin/taylor combination.

Nah, not perfect, but I still love it after 5 years with NO intentions of selling it!
BTW, bone worked best on this one, over FWI and tusq.

Nah. It's got a pickguard. I hate pickguards. I shoulda went with that super high buck -14 they have (or had at the time). Lotta bling, but no pickguard.

I think this is one that I will keep no matter what GAS pains I suffer in the future. According to the serial number, mine was conceived on November 2010. Even though it is new, it sounds amazing. I can't wait to hear it when it opens up after a few years!

I have tried a few and liked them a lot; yet they didn't compare to a GACE Custom 12 Fret in EIR/Redwood that I came across. The 714CE is a very nice guitar, though.

this one was (for me) ...
08 Fall 714ceLTD cedar/koa - had to let it go
the follow up (Spring 09 716ceLTD sitka/madagascar rosewood) - this time around, it was 'go big' or 'go home'

It seems like the mellow nature of the top would be a good compliment to the brighter nature of the Koa? Was that your experience?
