Snark--Red or Blue?
I've noticed the Snark is highly recommended by most and am set to get one. Also noticed that many of you got the chromatic one. Is that only because you are tuning other instruments besides guitars or do you need one of those to tune a guitar to alternate tunings?

There's no reason you couldn't use the blue for alternate tunings as well. The blue just doesn't have an internal mic, so it can only be used in clip-on fashion.

There is also a black one, and it can do alternate tunings as well...my gigging partner has a black one, I have blue and a friend the Red. We can interchange them if we like and they all work the same. The one with the mic is for wind instruments. |

Get the black one, because it doesn't look stupid.

As has been said, if you'll only be using it for the guitar, then the blue (cheaper) one will should be fine for whatever you want to do. It's not limited to only picking up "standard tuning" notes or anything like that.
In fact, my mate tried it on his 5-string bass and it locked on to the low B string straight away, so it should be fine for any drop-tuning you could imagine on a regular acoustic guitar |

How well do they display in bright sunlight?
My clip on is very hard to read outdoors.

Hi bk…
I have the blue one and my gigging partner has the black. Guess which of us can find his tuner quickly in the interior of a dark gear bag? |

I choose the red one because I can also use it without cliping to the headstock. Allthough I'm more of a blue than a red kind of guy, I think the red looks a little nicer.
