Default Case Covers

With all the obsessing over temperature and humidity this time of year I'm suprised no one has raised the subject of case covers.

I use Colorado Covers on all my Taylors, as well as my gigging electrics for a few reasons; they insulate, form a vapor barrier, keep the case in new condition, and just plain look cool.

When you consider the cost of a quality instrument you plan to keep, they go a long way in protecting the investment. I consider the price of a cover part of the total cost of buying a new guitar. You still need to humidify, but covers slow the rate of atmospheric change. A good thing when you're a wood structure under stress.

Peace.

I have been wondering about them also. I have wondered how they would hold up if one of my guitars had to ride in the cargo hole on a plane. I sure wouldn't want my case all banged up but then depending on how much a case cover costs it may be difficult to justify one of them getting all beat up also. Well I don't know I actually don't know anything about the covers really.

For those interested there are at least 2 other options to consider: Small Dog and ClimateCase.

To all:

I have a "Small Dog" case cover for my '99 612ce. It really works good. I was at a remote resort in Northern Michigan one night(doing Prasie & Worship with a group of close friends) when the heat went out... I think the additional insulation within the case cover (it's well padded) really saved my guitar. Also, when traveling a lot like I do each summer the case cover really does protect the case nicely. Isn't it something that even the cases on a Taylor are so special!!!

http://www.smalldogcasecovers.com

These guys have case covers specifically designed for each Taylor body style (well, case style I guess)

Perhaps other companies do as well...?

Those are really cool, but they cost as much as a case! That's pretty expensive. Not quite necessary enough to justify that much $.

I use a smalldog cover when I travel. I have had to gate check my guitar more than once and it has been well protected. Worth the money for me.
