Default Goodall Traditional Dreadnought????

Hey gang, new member, I have a line on a new Goodall TDR for a great price online. Can you guys share your thoughts on this guitar and series?

I'm a strummer/picker and I love dreads, I like both Taylor and Martin tones, I also like loud boxes. Anybody have experience with these guitars

Almost a sure bet at being a great guitar as long as you like the necks which have a little beef to them. Welcome aboard.

Agreed... Goodall's are exceptional guitars. A Goodall was the first Boutique built guitar I played (although I've never owned one). I really enjoy their tone.

Although there are clearly exceptions, Goodall's tend to be known for their lush overtones.

Great guitars.

yes, I was talking specifically about the trad dread. They're all very fine instruments, I love the dread but my personal favourite is probably the trad 000 which has a huge sound for its size.

Anyway, buy it and show us pics!!!

I have just got one.

I was going to buy this one on sale at House Of Musical Traditions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCXOSuRpGsk but took advantage of a pre-owned Adirondack/EIR from Elderly Instruments.

Mine doesn't have the sparkling overtones of the one in the clip. It's my first Adi and I'm wondering if I need Sitka. It's nice enough but overall I'm a bit disappointed - there again I usually am .

I'm familiar with that TradD at Elderly. It's not the Adi top, it's that particular guitar. It's quite mellow and dry for a Goodall. Every guitar is different.

Personally, in Goodall's Traditional series, I think the Adi/EIR TROM is incredible. My TROM is what got me away from full-sized guitars and into OMs. They have better balance, response and punch than the Trad D and as much volume. Not quite the bass output, of course, but hardly lacking.

The Trad 000-12 is very, very similar to the TROM with a bit more bass. If you're OK with 12 fret to the body, then a TR000-12 is a great choice.

As always...YMMV as each guitar is different.

Underfoot,

I've had my Goodall TRD (EIR/Adi) for almost two years. I bought it used from a guy in a bluegrass band that sadly had to do some home repairs and he was sad to have to let it go.

It's the loudest guitar I own and yet has a nice tone and is pretty responsive for fingerstyle, although you can certainly whang on it all day if you'd like. Very well made, not quite the typical "lush" Goodall sound but more traditional for certain.

Yes - I was really impressed with the smaller bodied Goodalls at TAMCO in Brighton, especially the 12 fretter. A friend has the OM.

I went for a Dread as I'm fed up getting out-gunned at acoustic sessions and wanted some volume. It does have a mellow sound as described above and will find it's place on my first pop/rock album which I'm recording at the moment - - it does the job a Martin D28 would have done and is lovely strummed with a light plectrum. Right shoulder aches after twenty minutes or so - do they make one with a Ryan bevel?

I don't think James has ever shipped out a bad guitar, or even a mediocre one. Still, I trust some are better than others. (I have a concert jumbo that I dearly love.) I would think adi over East Indian would be an excellent combination. Good luck. (Mine is adi over ziricote.)

I've had two Goodies, one the Standard (basically a dread), and they were both exceptional guitars in every way.
