Hey there,

I did the same thing... well not bought back a tele, but I did buy a new Squire tele. I purchased a set of American Tele pickups off an eBay seller and installed them. They actually came with both pickups, pots for volume and tone, and an input jack. The difference is amazing, truly. You get cleaner sound, and more out put. There are lots of options out there, most all will be an improvement in the stock set up. Be aware though, it's not always an easy swap. Even though they were all "Fender" parts, the pots on the Squier were smaller, and required some wood removed from the guitar to make then fit. Same with the pickup cutouts.

Check out the Keystone brand, made by Bill Lawrence. For less money than 90% of the after market pickups, you get a superior produce from some really nice people.

IMHO I would stay away from the Fender Noiseless pickups. They came installed on my Fender Strat Deluxe and yes they have no noise, but also no character, again in my opinion. I have not swapped them out but compared to my 70's strat, they just don't compare.

there are a couple of places with sound clips...

http://www.acmeguitarworks.com/Strat...d_Clips_W1.cfm Has only strat clips but you can get an idea of some of the differences between lines and make educated guesses about those companies.

also Seymour Duncan has clips for all of his pickups
http://www.seymourduncan.com/product...ic/telecaster/ I really like the Alnico II pro's for a tele.

http://www.rsguitarworks.net/rsstore/ RS Guitarworks has great pots etc.

other pickup companies I like are http://www.ocduffpickups.com/ O C Duff; http://www.vintagevibeguitars.com/ Vintage Vibe, which has sound clips, and http://www.curtisnovak.com/pickups/telecaster.shtml Curtis Novak. Nvak maes a split wind tele bridge that is hum cancelling while being true single coil.
