rec.music.makers.guitar.acoustic. It's a usenet group that's been around FOREVER. I've lurked there for years and years. Good group.

Ahhh, ye young'uns 'll never know the hardships we faced back in them days, before there was a world wide web and a browser - we got our internet guitar yack on with nothing but raw text and a store and forward system run by no one. Yeah, usenet was wild and woolly in them days, I tell ya.

Well aware of usenet, just not with that group... I also remember local BBS's well before Al enlightened us all...

Don't get there much any more.

You don't have to choose one over the other.
I visit many of the forums, and RMMGA is as good or bad as any of them on a given day.

Ahh... Those were the days... Waiting 10 minutes for the terminal software to load on your Commodore 64 or Apple II (PC's were for the rich)... Firing up the ol' 300 baud modem to dial up Compuserve or, even better, a local BBS... Getting dumped out of a session because you forgot to disable your call waiting... Those were the good ol' days!

I ran an Atari BBS at the time, the BBS for a regional users group. Somehow it ended up being something of a national hangout. The rig lived in the closet of my bedroom, where the enormous external 40mg hard drive ("we'll never fill all this space") chuckled and sighed gently all night long.

I've posted there since 1999, I believe. A little care is needed, and it's not for the easily offended, but there's a ton of good people there with a lot of knowledge. HE |
