This isn't all that bad
I didn't know that Kevin Eubanks was this good with an acoustic in his hands.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT7QKd6Wlr0 Is it just me or does his Martin have a very wide neck

Martin has necks in different sizes like most companies and custom and limited editions that will also have a popular model with a non-stock nut width. I am not sure if they have or at least advertise compound radius like some companies. |

No i'm not beeing sarcastic.
I think it sounds really good and to me that neck DOES look wide. Just curious about the model, nothing else.

Kevin Eubanks and his Martin...
Kevin Eubanks is a great guitarist. I have several recordings by him and they are all very well recorded and his performances are great. He has a very raw, woody tone and his technique is dynamic and emotional.
Eubank's guitar tech once said that he keeps all of Kevin's guitars(both acoustic and electric) set with their strings at less than 1/16" high across the 12th fret and that his playing style is very light and consistent. Constant neck adjustments and fret touch ups during travel dates and for his Tonight Show gig are the norm. I've gotten to see his Abe Rivera guitars up close and they're interesting pieces. They're all pretty ornate and have huge necks on them. Eubanks is a big guy with big hands and prefers a larger neck than what is typically stock. Rivera used to pop into the studio there in LA to try to get Eubanks to play one of his guitars and it worked for him. His guitars are probably seen by more eyes on a nightly basis than any builder in the world, but nobody really knows who he is. The Martin he's playing in this video is probably a custom with an obviously oversized neck. Martin does not offer a compound radius fingerboard on any model, but there are guys who routinely do a compound radius treatment aftermarket for those who really prefer the clearance for bending that it provides. Thanks for the video link. Regards, Kevin Gallagher Last edited by Kevin Gallagher; 10-27-2007 at 07:55 AM. |

Great post, Kevin! His tone reminds me a lot of Juber's. It looks as though Kevin is using flesh, no nail at all. This would explain why it sounds like Juber's tone to me. It's different, but I like it!

I think it's a custom D18 with the neck profile of the D18GE
