Guitar Weight
I was at my music store this afternoon and made an interesting discovery...I was playing around on some Taylors and Martins and I discovered that the Martins dreds are much lighter than my GS..... I'm fairly new to acoustic guitars, but I was really amazed at the difference...does anyone know the reason?

I don't own a GS...but I noticed the same thing recently when trying out some Taylors and Martins at GC. The GS seemed a bit heavier (at least to me) even compared to GA Taylors. The Martins were definitely lighter.

different tonewoods can have dramatically different weight. Rosewood will almost always weigh more than Mahogany. Of course, some builders just choose to build lighter or heavier as well.

My HD-28 always feels compared to many other dreads but I never gave it much thought beyond that, and I was playing smaller body guitars in a shop this past weekend and the 00, 000 and OM all seemed light too.

While there are many factors affecting weight the most obvious is size. The Taylor Grand Symphony is larger than the Martin Dreadnought.
