Default And you thought you had to play an instrument..

I was just whistling in my bathroom as I was getting ready for the day, and as I kept whistling some classical tune stuck in my head, I began to wonder... do people actually do this professionally? Not that Id ever consider it, but, it seems as if there's a professional for just about everything. After a simple google search, an interesting story:

A Professional Whistler!

How's your whistling?

Harmonica virtuoso Toots Thielmans was also a master professional whistler--some say he was the Caruso of whistling.

I whistle the instrumental section of my songs sometimes as a substitute when playing alone. I find a very limited range available to me and people are really confused by it because I don't move my lips and whistle over my bottom teeth like a floutist might with the resulting airy whistle similar to the sound of a pipe. It's quite fun, quite limited and can't be used too often or with a dry mouth but it does have its moments.

don't know if anyone around here has heard of him, but andrew bird, the multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter/acoustic loop-meister, has been described as a "professional whistler." the tone of his whistling is so pure and even that it's almost scary.

he's also a classically-trained violinist, and can really tear it up when he wants to. the guy is crazy talented.

andrew bird's myspace page

("fake palindromes" is my favorite, but doesn't contain any whistling. actually, none of those tracks really feature a lot of whistling, but there's some here and there in "oh sister," for example.)
