Your question may have gotten overlooked. Yes, this is Ebony. JK, correct me if I am wrong.

Sadly, for a couple hundred years most Ebony was left to rot on the forest floor. Only a small percentage is solid black! But it all sounds and works great.

Now that it is so seriously endangered, folks have finally gotten to see the breathtaking variegated stuff. It is very pretty!!!

I do hope I am correct here!

Paul

Paul, I think your story is correct about African Ebony, but the ebony John’s using here is probably from Indonesia and is always variegated in color (as far as I know). However your point stands for African Ebony.

Thanks, and you're on point with the different color pattern. I just wouldn't have guessed that it was actual ebony.
But it looks gorgeous, and will no doubt make for a fantastic sounding guitar.

Default box is closed puddled/purfled and bound

a little sanding and rounding yet to be done.

I wrote purfled and spell check changed to puddled and then the edit function wouldn't let me change the title bar. I just want everyone to know that I did not puddle this guitar.

I could tell you how to change that, but it’s funnier this way. It looks fabulous even if you did puddle it all up.

well thanks for the compliment Ryan.

Now you guys tell me what I have to do to become one of the "in crowd". Looks like I'm the only one who does not know how to edit the title line

When you edit your post, at the bottom click go advanced. It will take you back to the original formatting window that you did your post in.

Another way is to hit the edit button and then when you get to the screen, hit the edit button again.

Not sure the wrong word was used, the sides look kind of "puddled" to me -

pud·dle

/ˈpədl/Submit
verb

past tense: puddled; past participle: puddled

1.
wet or cover (a surface) with water, especially rainwater.
"the cobbles under our feet were wet and puddled"
2.
line (a hole) with puddle.

You know your are right. It IS puddled. That sounds more elegant I'm thinking. Puddled ebony. Black and white ebony really is a prosaic name

Default Fitting the neck

it does not always fall together this easily. A little flossing and mission accomplished.

the fingerboard is not glued on yet.

I'm really loving the looks of this guitar--awesome!

In view of recent posts, I've taken to calling it the "Puddle Jumper"!
