Default Removing the Martin logo?

I know this sounds weird, but how hard would it be to remove she script golden era overlay on my headstock?

Would not even attempt it if there was possibility of damaging the wood underneath.

Thanks!

I'm not sure of how to do it, but I'm pretty sure removing it would have a negative impact on the resale value of the guitar.

I assume you mean the decal. I don't know if the decal is applied over or under the finish, but solvent like Microsol would do it if it is over the finish. Of course you would then have to refinish the headstock as it will probably attack the nitro. As ChrisE says, you can kiss a substantial chunk of resale value goodbye if you do!

Curious as to why? Is this a Bill Monroe moment (famously gouged out "The Gibson" on his mando with a pocket knife)?

I did this on my Stihl chainsaw due to their intransigence regarding a poorly made product. I fixed it myself and still use it.

What's your Martin story?

Reason is I played an Authentic yesterday with no decal and thought it looked killer. Not worried about resale . This is not going anywhere!

I totally get it—I'm pretty attracted to that look myself. I'd suggest you ask over on the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum: lots of experienced Martin luthiers over there in the "Technical Info" section.

The Authentics of 1931 and earlier guitars have no decal because the originals didn't.

Well, they wouldn't be "authentics" with a decal. I still love the look!

Don't do it. Just because you liked the look of the bare OM-28 Authentic headstock doesn't mean everyone does. There is an undeniable cache associated with C.F. Martin on the headstock and players and buyers expect it to be there if the model calls for it. And I've sold plenty of guitars I swore would be with me forever, so no point destroying your resale value.

You don't ever see the headstock while playing. That's for others watching you to covet...

My D-28 would sound awful without the logo . . . a well-known fact !
