Good pickup for percussive sound.
Hy guys, can you tell me in you experience, a good pickup for a percussive sound to use with a a loop station for a 'drum loop'?
Baggs M80, k&k, JJB, baggs anthem, fishman rare earth blend, or other? Thanks |

For the best percussive sound you'll want something with either a soundboard sensor (like the K&K or JJB) or with an internal microphone (like the M80 or Baggs Anthem). I find that the SBT type pickups give a better overall representation of percussive playing. Most of your Candyrat players seem to favor hybrid systems that contain both SBT and internal mics.

I have an M80 and I don't think it incorporates a mic per se, but it's definitely "microphonic." It hears percussive stuff on the body. It also hears the pick hitting it, which is why I took mine out.

Today, I just played my Tak with Cooltube 3 preamp and the optional sbt out live. It's stellar. Picks up the percussive stuff extremely well.

... or for $999.99 you can get a whole guitar with a nice gig bag that'll do the percussive thing for you all night and day long: Ibanez PA300E

The Anthem will give you percussive sounds but more on the treble side. The K&K will give you good body sounds but it doesn’t work for the kind of gigs I do. I bought a Cole Clark guitar because that thing can sound like a Cajon and gives me the best percussive sounds of any pickup I have tried.

Ibanez and Cole Clark and takamine, are amazing guitar but I prefer use my Tanglewood and add a better percussive pickup. The baggs m80 have a good 'cajon' sound? Or the anthem but tell me is on the treble side.

I have several of them now. I'm much happier with them than UST/bridgeplate/microphone combos in a couple of my Taylors.
