Thanks Rich! Tyler and I agreed it would be best for him to keep the guitar in his climate controlled workshop until the weather is less severely cold both in MI and even here in TX. When the time is right, he will send the guitar via next day air shipping to minimize time in-transit. As tempting as it will be to see the guitar as soon as I receive it, I plan to allow 24 hours to allow the instrument to acclimate to the warmer temperatures in my home before opening the case.

Tyler has completed the intonation and setup on this guitar after finishing the nut and saddle earlier in the week. Feedback on the sound from both Tyler and Tom Dalia has been very favorable.

Tyler will be taking pictures of the guitar and there is a demo video planned as well which I will post to this thread once I have received them.

Thanks Jim, I've been playing my Brazilian RW Robbins R.1ca while I wait for this one to make it's way to me. I'll let you know when I have it so you can come check it out in person.

I think the ebony in the tuners looks a little busier and draws some attention away from the delicate and fantastic work in the headstock. Not that they look bad by any stretch of the imagination, just that they compete a bit for attention, if that makes sense. Either way, it’s a fantastic instrument.
Mike, thank you for your comment. This was my initial thinking too...that the ebony-koa buttons might be too busy.

Thanks Paul, another vote for all-koa.

Thanks for your comment Hen, that is a novel idea that I had not considered! I have a Mike Baranik Meridian which has different sets of wood buttons on each side of the headstock and I think it looks great and will give this idea a look.

Thanks rockabilly69. I'm going to be testing this combination out. I've got options and can try each them out myself when I have the guitar.

Edit 01-19-23 - For those wishing to see the configuration with Koa buttons on one side and Ebony with Koa buttons on the other side OR the all Koa buttons configuration -

I'm sticking with the Ebony and Koa buttons which I personally like the best although the other configurations are also compelling. I have options!

The headstock is looking very nice. Personally I like the look of the all
Koa also.

Default Robbins R.1ca - German Spruce - Koa "Plumeria" - Pictures from Tyler

I just received Tyler's pictures of my guitar -

This Robbins R.1ca has turned out better than I could have imagined when Cheryl and I started planning this build. Kudos to Tyler Robbins and also Tom Dalia for exploring "the possible" to help achieve this beautifully crafted instrument. They both were a pleasure to work with once again and have become friends with Cheryl and I over the course of 3 commissioned builds, visits together at the Galloup School, Woodstock and the Swannanoa Guitar Gathering.

The very favorable comments I have already received about this guitar's sound from Tyler and Tom have me looking forward to playing and awakening it in the New Year.

Thanks for following along!

Doug, you guys knocked this one out of the park. As I look at it, every element is so well thought out and coordinates with the others. Adding a Plek setup, no stone has been left unturned.

Beautiful guitar, Congratulations!

Beautiful guitar, Congratulations!

Thank you Mike. A lot of planning went into to design elements of this guitar and I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Looking forward to playing it in the near future.

Thanks Diogo! The weather forecast has moderated both in MI and TX, so if all goes as planned Tyler will ship the guitar to me by air carrier next Tuesday, January 3rd!

It won't be long now!

This has been a very fun build to follow. The quality of wood and workmanship, and the unique design elements, have made it truly inspiring. I hope you get it next week and look forward to some sound clips. Happy New Year! Dave

I looked through this thread in awe and amazement!!
What a truly beautiful instrument. I (nearly) envy you!!!
I big big applause to Mr. Tyler for making such piece of art.
I bet WE all now want to hear what it sounds like, which is the all important thing, after all, right?
