I've got two Andy Powers braced Maple back and sides Taylors: a 2015 Taylor 618e, and a 2016 Taylor 614ce. Both sound warm and clear and not similar in tone to the earlier and brighter-toned Taylor Maple back and sides guitars.

A very interesting build decision on this one. I would never thought of putting a recessed lamp into the back of a guitar. Was it to make the tone brighter? |

Can we please move on from the photo discussion. It has been discussed many times and there are many ways to post photos. Charter membership is one and you can post directly from your computer. The tapatalk app also is very easy. There are probably 50 photos posted a day from lots of different folks and instruction threads also.

Keyword "elsewhere" However to upload direct, for a very nominal yearly fee you can always become a charter member which helps you support AGF and gives you access to posting for sale in Classified's

Wow I love this post! These are some incredible guitars. Here's another maple example:

My ears tell me that maple is more balanced and focused than other tone woods (this is, of course, generally speaking and there are certainly exceptions). I've owned three or four J-200s in the past that were not loud but very balanced. Here's the backside of the J-185 I now beat on......22 years old and sporting a war wound or two........

Only discovered maple a few years ago, but now own two - a custom Huss & Dalton CM 12-string and a Taylor 612ce 12-fret.
I have tried a couple of Gibson J185s, but found the neck too skinny, but at some point, I will be seriously looking at either a Taylor 614ce (tried one and liked it a lot) or an Eastman AC622CE (which I would love to try). |

Well, there is this:
And this: And this: All truly, genuinely, unintentional. No, seriously, did not intend on getting these, let alone intend on maple. I was that guy who had read about maple acoustics. The 12-string was first. I owned a Taylor 655 before this and it was very nice, but this one, whoa!! Utterly changed what I "thought" I knew about maple! Then the small-bodied quilted: deep bass notes and excellent midrange voice ...along with its engelmann top is a lush tone that is deep and defined, always articulate, and a bottom end that belies its small body. Last was the dred ...and I never even liked dreds and never owned one bc of, you know, "that" dred tone! I stumbled into this one, saw this and said, ok maybe. Strummed a few chords and it drew me in the more I played. Bought it and this dred had become my main live guit for well over a decade now, and it has only gotten better! Played it so much that I had recently refretted it in Evo. Love this thing! Call me a convert and I'd have to say guilty as charged! Edward Last edited by edward993; 03-24-2024 at 10:17 PM. |

Beard Trailhead, all solid maple(top, back, sides). pickup, set the string action where Med gauge strings play easy and feel like light gauge yet a glass slide sounds very nice. for use with a heavier brass slide or to play lap style(it is a round neck), i made a cover for the nut that raises the action to accomodate the heavier slide or laying on its back. very interesting instrument.
5.8 lbs rounded edges 4.25" depth at endpin 14.25" lower bout width 1 3/4" nut width, 2 3/16" string spacing at saddle 12 fret with a deep cutaway for easy access 25" scale 2.5/32" string action low E at the 12th 2/32" string action high e at the 12th poor audio quality but this is the guitar |

It was replaced with "V class". I played a 2015 814 at Gruhns and thought it was the best Taylor I've ever heard.
