Default Pickup systems on carbon guitars vs wood

Interesting post on what you like about Emerald guitars and the biggest negative was the pickup system. Use a K&K pro on my wood guitar and its matches the real tone pretty well. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if the amp is on. Wonder if carbon guitar are more difficult to tame?

I used K&K pickups in my wood and carbon fiber guitars for years. They amplify exactly the same. Same good and same bad. Any challenges I had with K&K system in my carbon fiber guitars was the exact same as in my wood guitars. K&K Pure Mini pickups are great for their simplicity. It's a rock-solid, relatively inexpensive non-battery system with minimal stuff in your guitar.

But they also require a significant amount of tone shaping and outboard help to truly sound great. A lot of that depends upon your style of playing and what type of venues and music you play. They are prone to feedback at high volumes and they are not great for fingerstyle players. If you're just a pick strummer playing cowboy chord favorites at open mics it's a great system.

I have a James May Ultratonic in my x-20 and I quite like the sound and it has better feedback resistance than some of the k&k equipped guitars I have.

I put it in myself but had Emerald do the prep for it.
