Default Weekly comparison....

This week Rainsong Guitars released news of their Ltd. (3 guitars) Birds Edition ($4995) https://www.rainsong.com/product-pag...imited-edition and Emerald released news of its 10th Anniversary Ltd. (20 guitars) X20 First Burst ($4395) https://emeraldguitars.com/product/x20-fire-burst. It's hard to avoid comparing the two....

Is there a comparison, though?

Well, the Emerald costs $600 less, and you have 17 more chances to get one...

I want to see more options for anyone who wants them, but it's hard to think both of these firms are on equal terms for longevity.

I'd probably get one if I didn't already have an X-20. I really like the veneer+burst and the vibrant weave they chose for the back/sides. Would have been nice if they could have somehow made the inlay do double duty of marking the odd frets. But, yeah, a nice looking guitar.

I won’t be ordering one - I have my eye on something else - but I love this anniversary edition.

I particularly like the inlay - it’s unique. Its alignment wouldn’t bother me, as I use the side dots as my guide.

The look of the Emerald moves my soul. The birds on the RainSong seem more whimsical. That's a bit too much ($$) for "whimsy"... I know which way I'd go if I was in the market.

Not a fan of either but if forced I'd definitely take the Emerald over the RainSong especially at $600 less, and I currently own two RainSongs.

I skimmed over the video (no volume) and not much moved me. The top was okay but not a fan of the red b/s and REALLY not a fan of that fretboard 'inlay'.

Hard pass.

I love the look of the Black Ice Rainsong - it’s striking, and unlike anything else.

The birds? Well, I was reminded of this.

That X20 is a fine looking guitar! Love the veneer and color scheme. Would guess Emerald will get further requests for that combo.

As for me, I love my X20, but can’t justify a second one. So will enjoy the pretty pictures and let it stop there.

Now if they announced a Fire Burst X25 model, hmm that might get me in the game. 16” lower bout, 5” max body depth, plenty of those great contours and bevels, same great neck and scale as the X20 … a boy can dream!
