Just put deposit on Martin D28..
Words cannot tell you how excited i am!
I originally was looking at the lower end Martin line (D16GT etc) but i decided to try the D28 just to compare. For me, the difference was massive. I also considered the resale value and the significance and history that this model entails, so it seemed daft spending less. I also run a studio, so having a D28 for clients is never going to be a bad thing! I did also try the HD28 and that was nothing short of exceptional, even for a strummer like me, it just oozed tone, although the regular D28 was only marginally behind, but cost loads less, and i was already £700 over my budget! I'm hoping over the next few months it will really come to life being played for hours a day. I've got a Taylor 816CE and i think these two will cover all bases. I do love my Taylor for it's brilliant strumming capability, but the problem is that it never sounds like its a vintage guitar being played when it's recorded. It does fit amazingly into any mix quite easily though and works well for anything you want to sound very modern and clean, but overall, you can never get away from that Taylor tone, hence the reason i chose to look for a second alternative, and i think the Martin will really be the complete opposite, which means i can mix and match to my hearts content.. Just thought i'd share my excitement. It's such a lovely guitar.

Their a good reason why the D-28 is the flagship of the Martin line , their a great guitar ! The HD-28 has a different tonal balance - the D-28 is a great recording guitar ! Congrats my friend !

Thanks for all the replies. You've made me even more excited now!
The HD28 is £2145 compared to the D28 at £1799, so £350 difference (or $533) so i simply can't justify the extra cost. If the difference were only $200 or thereabouts, i'd have considered it, but this is rip off Britain!  Not too fussed anyway, as i managed to get the price of the D28 for £1650 ($2600) as it was the same place as i bought my Taylor from 2 years ago. Pictures and sound/video clips to follow once i get it!

Yeah, you can buy new ones for much less in the states. It's the same with pretty much everything, so it doesn't bother me. I've happily accepted that fact!
Anyone recommend strings? I'm a current user of Elxixir 80/20 12g on the Taylor, but i've been recommended Martin SP Longlife (new one's) for a similar price. Do they compare, or should i go for regular SPs?
