How Many Use A Battery Operated String Winder?
Just curious ( just another way of saying I'm sitting here with nothing to do!).
Do you use the time-honored hand crank string winder or the fancy-schmancy battery operated one??? |

My Roadie tuner doubles as a string winder, so I guess that qualifies.

Time honored! Though I bought two Frank’s cranks that seem to make things go faster than the old Dunlop plastic ones I have.

I don't. Despite having multiple guitars and changing strings fairly often I still use a hand crank. It's not out of any sense of tradition; it's just that despite seeing videos of techs using them I wonder if tuner gears are designed to hold up at that speed. Just me over thinking probably. I definitely understand techs using them if they're restringing multiple times a day.

Rechargeable battery powered cordless reversible screwdriver with a guitar tuner button cup attachment.
I lined the inside of the cup with the soft side of some self adhesive velcro strip. Faster, easier and neater. Love it, wish I tried it earlier.

Count me in as “fancy-schmancy.”

I do and love it. Once I get it close I switch to a crank then by hand

I resisted for 55 years.
I felt smug, arrogant, and superior clinging to to the old way using my hand. Finally I bought one that looks something like this ... a SDOTD for IIRC $12. I LOoOoOoOVE it ... especially for my slot-head guitar, which requires 17 hands to restring. ... and yes, I've watched all those videos ... all of them. 0123.jpg |

Black & Decker small cordless GyroScrewdriver with one of the inexpensive peg winder bits. Works great and since I have 18:1 and 21:1 tuners, it's a wrist-saver. |

I bought a powered one and gave it away.
The music nomad hand winder is something special. You have to try it to see just how smooth and fast it is. |

I purchased the same Ernie Ball winder as Tico. Easy to use and it doesn't seem to spin too fast.

I use the Ernie Ball battery powered winder, the Power Peg. I find it gives me a lot more control to avoid damaging the finish on headstocks and it's way faster than doing it by hand.

Yeah... having seen a tech slice the pad off his fingertip with one of those I'm sticking to a Frank Ford string winder for the foreseeable future.
