This may not be relevant,, but if you wear polarized sunglass they make things worse for reading digital

How do you tune with an iphone? These places are noisy. Do you need a cord?

The only time I use an iPhone to tune is at a store or somewhere I'm testing a guitar without prior knowledge of need. I use a micro in-hole D'Addario tuner and my pedal board tuners as the phone requires you to pick it up, turn it on, hold it close to the guitar and tune. I find it far quicker to chat for 10 seconds with the audience and use an in-line or sound-hole mounted tuner. Since I keep one mounted on every guitar, I'm never without a tuner.

Mostly I've used an Eno ET-33 that I got with a beginner ukulele package years ago. Recently I bought a chromatic Snark for my new banjo but it doesn't work very well. It can't seem to recognize what string I'm tuning. I bought a two pack of those DeAddario micro tuners a few years ago and have gone back to using them. When I first got them I liked them, but then I didn't. Now I like them again.

I use the tuner in my new Shure wireless system and can see it very well even in the sunlight. However, at $499, if all you need is a tuner it's a bit steep!

The Peterson phone ap is the best phone tuner ever.

It's not free, but it's the best.
I'm planning on selling my workbench Peterson, I much prefer the phone app version.

Remember this: A tuner gets you into the ballpark, but you still have to find your seat.

I use a polytune clip on, LED, bright as hell, very very accurate, light years better than the Snarks.
