Default Brazilian Rosweood Larrivee D-09 "Flying Eagle" inlay

Another guitar I never expected to sell (and don't want to) but, after dealing with spinal issues for the last 4 years I'm just playing a few of my 12-fret fingerstyle guitars and have decided to stop hoarding. I've always said this one easily holds up against my Collings and Bourgeois. Larrivee serial number lookup lists it as a 1998 D-09 Brazilian. I've heard this referred to as a "Flying Eagle" because of the special inlay by Wendy Larrivee. The tone is very rich in overtones with ridiculous sustain. Similar to the character I've heard in Goodalls I've played. I've owned a few of the higher level Larrivees but this is just in another class entirely. The price is $4,100. Not taking offers at this time, please read at the end regarding trades.

Nut = 1 3/4"
String spacing at saddle= 2 3/16"
Action= (roughly) 2/32" high E, 2.25/32" low E (at the 12th w/ 1st fret depressed). Action is low with no sign of neck angle being compromised.

The condition is very good to excellent. Shockingly little fret wear (see pic) for a late 90's guitar. If you've played Larrivees of this era you know how well they age. There are some small blemishes but they don't photograph well. No wood cracks or anything of the sort. I've kept it in my humidity controlled guitar room and in a case. Saddle height is healthy. I've kept it tuned down so there's been very little tension on it for the last several years. The original owner said they rarely ever played guitar, and I believe it when I look at this one.

Tone-wise, Larrivee dreads are known for being articulate and balanced. But, the Brazilian makes this one markedly different than the East Indian rosewood Larrivee I owned. The bass is MUCH deeper than an EIR Larrivee dread. Volume is also much louder and there is a brighter sparkle in the highs.

Edit; Dropboox has been giving people problems so I'll be posting all the pics in the thread. Here's the original link in case it works for you; https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/0zss3...=vcq9kh4s&dl=0

Trades; While I'm open to trades, my interests are very narrow. I find I'm only playing more responsive woods like redwood, koa, and cedar in 12-fret versions because of my neck issues. That's mostly what I'm interested in but will hear trade offers.

I'm located in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and local buyers are welcome to come play it. Questions are welcome.

I can vouch for everything Bowie says about these rare Larrivees. I have the same guitar and it sounds on par with my more expensive Goodall. If you know anything about Jean Larrivee, you know he is obsessed with finding the best wood. The Brazilian rosewood he used on these limited edition guitars is exceptional. The wood alone would be at least a $5000 upgrade today if you could even find any as nice. They definitely have the sparkle and glassy reverb tone you hear in the best BZ guitars. These guitars are approaching 30 years old, and were made from an old stash Jean had in 1998. Mine has aged like a fine wine, getting better every year.

This is an exceptional price for a boutique Brazilian rosewood dread.

^Good description. You definitely know how precious these are. It feels ridiculous to let it go as the sound quality is far in excess of the market price. If I was still playing 14 fret dreads this eagle wouldn't be going anywhere.

Curious as to what kind of strings (gauge & type) you use to get this glorious sound you describe? Too bad you don't have a video link or something to actually hear this beauty in action. Does it have an under-saddle pickup?

Hi, I've used a number of string types on it and the heavy overtones and long sustain are not string dependent. That character is just inherent to this instrument. It will get a little brighter or darker with brand and type but it's not like a dry sounding guitar where string choice can make or break it. The sustain and overtones are "always on" with this one.

If it stays for a while I will consider making a clip but there's already been some trade offers and interest so I'll see how it goes.

I don't recall seeing an under-saddle pickup. If there was one I would have removed it.

Because the Dropbox link stopped working I am uploading pics to older posts in this thread.
Also, there was some confusion about nut width. This is indeed a 1 3/4" nut as I stated, which might be rare for this model. See the pic below.

The guitar is available. To the user who inquired about a trade today, I cannot respond as your AGF PM box is full. Also, I don't think you are receiving my emails.

Oh myyyy - what a gorgeous instrument - if I didn't have a closet full of Larrivees, I would be very tempted. Best of luck with the sale!
