Thin strings sound harsher?
Any thoughts on the difference of tone between .11s and .12 gauge strings? I have swopped to .11s but am finding them after a few days actually MORE difficalt on the fingers, despite the lower tension and a tad harsher sounding. Will probably go back to 12s, even though I did order 3 sets of 11s, I can likely send them back for a swop to 12s and just get away with paying the postage.............Soooooo, out of interest, I thought i'd run a poll on string gauges. I've been using 13's on my D-28. I think 11's are way too thin for an acoustic. But I'm thinking of going back to 12's. Those were always what I used and they might be the best. 13's just are not that comfortable and maybe a little too boomy on a dread. Hey, it looks like Neil Young uses 12's and he mostly plays Martin dreads.

Didn't vote but I use 12's on the Baby and the GC, 13's on the jumbo.
Just for completeness, 11's on both electrics. |

I use lights on the 312 and light mediums on the 710. I might switch back over to regular medium gauge next time. The LM's are easier to fingerpick, but the mediums are better sounding when I gig it. So its a trade-off.

13's for me. I like a little meat on that bone.

I wouldn't change what my Taylors came with for the world. I want to preserve that tone at any price. They get Elixir 12's.
On my Strats, I use 10's. On my Telecaster, I have 09's. On my Hamer Echotone, (hollow body electric), I use 11-49's. Each choice is a question of tone.
