Default What Songs Are Just Fun to Play?

I don’t have a large repertoire, but there are a few songs that I just really have fun with when I play them. Some of my favorite “just for fun” songs are, “Turkey In The Straw”, “Chicken Reel”, “Arkansas Traveler” and, of course, “You Gotta Quit Kickin’ My Dog Around”. Yes, just about any song can bring a smile to my face, but to me, some are just like watching a good comedy show. What songs tickle your funny bone?

I love playing Lyle Lovett's "If I had a Boat".

John Prine's 'In Spite Of Ourselves'.
'I Don't Look Good Naked Anymore' is another fun/funny crowd fav.

Those are funny songs. As for songs that are just 'fun' to play? Most of them, for us. Easy, repeatable songs are fun because you're on autopilot. Wagon Wheel is certainly one of them.

The songs from our current setlist that I would consider fun either because they are simple or easy to play and/or are big hits with the crowds are:

These Boots Were Made For Walking
Rock Around The Clock
Pour Some Sugar On Me
Twilight Zone
On The Road Again

And a whole bunch more. But those are the current ones that most meet that criteria. I always tend to favor the newest ones as well. But that doesn't always last!

I’ve been enjoying The Rain Song and Going to California by Led Zeppelin;
Mark Knopfler “Sailing to Philadelphia” and Metallica’s nothing else matters.
While not acoustic, I like the bass lines for “Soul to Squeeze “ by the chili peppers, as well as “Useless” by Depeche Mode.
Those have been what I’m practicing as fun.

Awhile I played and sang a song at one of the jams I go to. I heard people laughing and singing when the caught on the chorus.

Now it has become a request, "I Just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore". The first time I heard this, it was done by Smokey Greene in a YouTube clip.

Keep your hands to yourself by the Georgia Satellites. It always lightens the mood. I sing it with goofy inflections and facial expressions. Just a funny song. A really simple 1-4-5 that loosens up both hands.

Jingle Jangle Jingle.

What a hoot! I think Gene Autry did it first.

Yes! It's a great song and it actually works well enough on acoustic. Apologies for the sloppy mistake-filled rendition, but here's a truncated example of me messing around with it just now:

For a fun song, I like John Prines “Please Don’t Bury Me” ….fun to play and you find out who is listening.
