Stapedectomy (ear surgery) results.

Hey All. I had Stapedectomy surgery in my left ear 3 months ago. It's a surgery where a small bone in the inner ear (the stapes) is removed and replaced with a titanium prosthesis. Sometimes this bone gets fused, doesn't vibrate much, and results in a loss of hearing that isn't nerve related.

Yesterday I had my hearing test and final checkup. I gained about 40 decibels, which is just about the max I could have achieved. Fantastic results!

One month after the surgery and I knew it had worked I ordered by Taylor BTO.

Well ... as a fellow countryman, you know that it didn't cost a dime! ... oh wait, you're talking about the BTO? ;)

You bet, $ better spent on BTO! To not have to worry about health care costs is such a blessing! Yep, back to the original topic!

Glad to hear it went so well!

I'm originally from Nova Scotia and was in Paris two weeks ago. Does that count? :)

Great news! Congratulations. Now you will hear your new Taylor all the better when it arrives!

Well ... considering I was born in Nova Scotia and lived there a few years, and visit my folks a few times a year, YES, it does count! :) I've never been to France though. Why did you go to Paris? Business or Pleasure?

JCave 11-26-2011 11:48 AM

Great news, Dru. One both counts. :)

Doctors knives scare the heck out of me... So far so good, they've not touched me. :D

Thanks ... and I don't blame you. I've been put to sleep 3 times (tonsils, wisdom teeth, and ears). I can also say that I am healthy!

Thanks Sharon. I'll be sure to post some pics of the new guitar, and I'm sure it will sound much louder than it would have a few months ago. :)

A pleasure trip for my wife and I. 16 days spent touring (sites and visiting vineyards) in Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Piza, Venice, Paris, and a visit to Laval, France to see my wife's family on her (deceased) mother's side. A memorable adventure!

Really great news, Dru. I'm happy for you.

Thanks Spieler.

There was one 'drawback' to the surgery. I lost some of the taste on the left side of my tongue. Dr. confirmed this is due to the surgery but I should be better in 6 month. Nothing major but it does feel just a tad numb.
