JTC,
So what did you decide to buy? We're all invested in your quest now! Regards, Glenn |
Yeah- what Glenn said!

Oh, it's a Cort MR-710F-12 - see the Ebay auction (www.ebay.co.uk, item 130314395691 if you want a picture). Having been wowed by just how good my Cort 6-string is (thanks Fliss), I was biased towards this Cort 12-string from the start :-)

My vote is for the Walden D552. I purchased one at the beginning of the year and absolutely love it. Everyone who plays it loves it. And the price is unbelievable, less than $300 with gig bag and humidifier..

JTC,
Cool! I hope you love it! - Glenn |
never mind. :)

That looks really nice, congratulations John!
I am the former owner of John's Cort 6-string, and it is a great guitar, with a tone that is honestly comparable with guitars costing a lot more. I hope the 12-string turns out to be as good :) Please post a review when you get it, John! Fliss |
You might want to check out the article on 12 strings in the August issue of Acoustic Guitar. Yamaha, Washburn, Guild, Larrivee, Breedlove, and Martin twelve strings are reviewed.

I own a Crafter 12 string and love it.
If you can find a store that carries Crafter Guitars, give one a try. Very good prices for the quality. |
Well, I received the guitar yesterday and she's a beauty. Without having played a really expensive 12-string, it's difficult to see what extra you'd get in a tonal sense. Very expressive, good volume, shimmering tones which resonate for ages, and a very attractive looking guitar for very sensible money. Pretty much the same as for the Cort I bought from Fliss.
I've spent a fair bit of time mucking around with hifi over the years and the law of diminishing returns kicks in hard above a certain point. I am now wondering whether this is also true of guitars, but perhaps that's a topic for another post........ |
Great news, John! But you must realise we need pictures as well as a review :)
Diminishing returns? Maybe, but probably each of us would have a different idea what level that kicks in at! Your Corts may be giving you a distorted perspective, as the SFX 6B (in my opinion anyway!) is way better than most guitars you'd get at that price point. Fliss |
+1 for Yamaha
I used to own a Yamaha FG512-II for well over 20+ years. Good action and setup. Sounds wonderful with Martin strings. It is a solid guitar in that it didn't require extreme care; just regular change of strings etc. I love it very much until the bridge cracked and the cost of replacing it outweigh purchasing a new one. Manage to sell it to somebody for project work. I don't play a 12 string now, but I can't fathom myself getting another brand apart from a Yamaha. Anyway, that's my take on 12 strings.

I really don't know much about Cort guitars but based on the pictures and description in the listing it looks like you got a great deal (less than 1/2 of what was paid a year ago) and now that you've got it and like it that's even better. If you capo you may need to get a new one for your 12. I've been real happy with the Planet Waves N7 (I use a Kyser on my 6 strings) on my 12 and it is about 1/2 the cost of other 12-string capos. Have a great time playing your new guitar. joan
