Default Latest on Calton

I just got a note from England. Keith Calton has pulled the rights to use the name and the moulds from the New Brunswick operation. This signals the end of Calton in North America till someone steps up and takes advantage of an opportunity.

Do I hear any voices?

Mr. Calton will likely be selling to North America, but his operation has always been much smaller than the North American shop so the delay is likely to be frustratingly long. However, he is scrupulously honest and does communicate!

Keith has given Jim permission to finish cases for anyone who has paid for them in advance.

I'd hate to be stuck with the damaged brand name of "Calton" in this case. The whole thing seems insane...are they 2 brothers running 2 companies by the same name in different countries? Confused.

The one way to get a response from Calton is to inquire about ordering one via email. JS

No, they aren't brothers. No relation whatsoever. This latest owner bought the franchise from the former owners of Calton Cases of Canada, and has proceeded to run the good name of the company and the product into the ground, as anyone who's been following the appalling news of his mismanagement on this forum can tell you.

Let's hope that another responsible and diligent person will rise to the occasion and resume making Calton cases in North America.

FWIW from the Calton website:

Quote:
Calton Cases (North America), Inc Business Update

On September 19th, 2011 we received notification from the legal firm representing Keith Calton which contested certain aspects of contracual relationships that exists between Keith Calton and Calton Cases (North America), Inc. Without allowing us the opportunity to respond and with the process which will determine the final outcome not yet begun, it is unfortunate that by his recent acts, Keith Calton has chosen to use the internet and the fine customers of our company as leverage in his attempt to seek satisfaction. We stand by every order placed, and every customer we have done business with and will do business with. We operate as a seperate and distinct corporation to Keith Calton and are under no outside direction. We control our own supply chain and have the support of all of our suppliers. Any current order will be delivered and all future orders will be delivered. We will ensure that this matter will be resolved between the parties without impacting our customers.

It's certainly not at all clear what legal restrictions, if any, Keith Calton might impose on Calton Cases of N.A....he may indeed have the legal power to revoke the current owner's right to use the name and more...this all remains to be seen...

One thing continues to be very clear about this whole situation, however:

Anyone sending any money in an attempt to purchase a case, pre-made or custom-order, from Calton Cases of N.A. is taking a risk...and it's not a small risk, by any means.
