Of late, I'm persuaded Greg Rich's "new" Recording Kings belie their bargain prices particularly on laminates w/solid top. Here's my next "beater," as soon as Jim Holler (http://trinityguitars.com) gets some more in. Very nice burst to my eyes, and Jim will set 'em up with bone, gratis. I think they out-Blueridge Blueridge. Again, one man's opinion. This model is xxx. Decently so.

The stonebridge durango series are excellent. Not very cheap, but excellent.

I'll resist the urge to say Yairi or McPherson, the two highest quality ones I know of.

Oops, said it anyway.

Lorenzo L449. All plywood. Made in China and sold in the UK. Best xxx buckaroos you will ever spend. Tough to find here.

Why does it have to be laminate? (Not 'plywood', please!)

Guild makes wonderful arched, laminate-backed guitars in various woods, particularly their jumbo maples.

Don't laugh but I have a Jay Turser acoustic cutaway guitar that is not too bad for a plywood guitar. Spruce plywood top, mahogany plywood back and sides. Stays in tune, great electric guitar type action. I paid $xxx on ebay for it, but alas it hangs on the wall and doesn't get played.... It has a pretty elaborate/large pearl eagle inlay around the soundhole, although part of one of the eagle's wing has a hairline crack.

Yamaha comes to mind immediately, but I didn't know that some of the other brands already listed were made of laminates. How very interesting...

Any of the Blueridges......

Superior tone and quality for the price range. Check out a BR-40 or BR-60 (or even a BR-40AS, BR60AS sunburst with Adirondack spruce top). You could even possibly find a good condition used all solid wood BR-140 or 160 for under $xxx. I've seen them advertised.....

I had an all-laminate Alvarez RD8 that was a great guitar. I gave it to a friend of mine a couple of years ago for his birthday (after I cut a soundport in it and realized I didn't like soundports).

Here's a link the only documentation of the guitar's sound that I have (taken with a point and shoot picture camera @ the beach).

The Seagull S-6 has a solid cedar top but laminated (plywood) cherry back and sides. It's one of the best laminated guitars that I've ever heard.

I've heard many nice sounding Yamaha guitars, even the cheap ones, and some nice sounding Alvarez guitars too.

A kid at church has a Washburn D-something guitar that sounds pretty darn good for what it is.

I'll bet you could record a good player playing some of these cheap guitars vs. some more expensive ones and most folks couldn't tell you which was which.

Just a reminder everyone... I've had to delete references to guitar prices on several posts in this thread already. Per our forum rules, no price discussion is allowed. This means even if you say, "it's under $xxx."

Thanks.
