The new Taylors sound nothing like my '94 710 that I have had for 30 years and I'm really sold on the new Taylor tone. The only C Class Taylor I have is my GTe Blacktop and I've gotta say the bass response and vintage flavored tone it generates is amazing given the smaller body size.

Enjoy your beautiful 117e and be sure to let us know how you feel about it after you get it played in for a few months.
Thanks, Mick! I'm still not quite sold on V-Class, I think the AP bracing used on the 2014 800 series redesign and the revamped 600 series was Taylor's best bracing, but I do like C-Class in this context.

Thanks, Tom. I like how the pickguard shape follows the body lines.

I wish they’d sell this without the ES2 and I’d be very interested!
Thanks! I'd also a prefer a purely acoustic one for less as I never plugin myself.

They are also doing it to newly shipped 110s, 112s, and 114s, and their 200 counterparts.

Not on Taylor's website yet, but Sweetwater has them.

Or maybe they just didn't like the idea of a GP ever having X brace.
V-Class was originally designed for the GP, then fitted to the other models, so that makes sense.

I'd much prefer a version without ES2 at all.

Oh man... I long said my beloved and dearly departed 114 burst was hands-down one of the best guitars I've ever owned, even beating out a few 300/400 series guitars that just didn't sound "better" enough. Going to have to see about playing the 117, 114, and 112 and bring one back into the fold. Or maybe spend the extra $100 for a tortoise guard on the 200 series.

That is beautiful. Enjoy! If they made one in a sunburst I think I would have to buy it!

Having played one today… endorse! I think it sounds better than the AD17. Additionally I played alongside a used “broken in” Taylor 510, with perfect action. The 117 sounded so much more rich and full.

I agree with that; the AD17 was missing a bit of depth for me. The combination of torrefaction and C-Class bracing make this a winner, especially for the price.

Yeah, I'm pretty so-so on my AD17.

The thing that really gets me about this new crop of 100/200 series that have torrefied tops and new bracing is that they are, at $899/$999 respectively, somehow $100 cheaper than the 100/200s have been the past couple years.

Yes. I never thought I'd say it regarding this series, but I think these are currently a good value for what they offer.

Last night I happened across a recording I'd done with my old AD17 and it just seemed a bit thin to me.

Agreed. I think the different bracing improves the tone. I wonder how the old x bracing would have sounded?
