Due to evolving music preferences. It was a flatpicking monster (and very good fingerpicker too), but that's not what I do anymore. Pretty much ever. In the Mid-90s through very early 2000s yes. But not anymore.

Also it had a very wide neck for a six string. I don't have problems yet, but as I will soon be eligible for senior discounts, taking steps to minimize RSIs before they become an issue seems smart, especially since the guitar's strengths were not being taken advantage of. Same reason I may part with my beloved Baritone down the road. I said may...

Needless to say, the money crunch necessitated a lot of difficult decisions.

I recently sold two - a D18e Retro and a 000-28EC to fund my acquisition of a Collings OM2H-G that is the most glorious instrument I've ever had. They are painfully expensive, but they are great value for your money

Martin 00028EC Clapton Signature
Martin D18 Retro
Gibson J45 Custom
Fender Custom Shop '51 Nocaster Ltd Relic Esquire
Fender Custom Shop Eric Clapton Strat
Fender American Professional Strat
Breedlove Pursuit Nylon
Taylor Big Baby

Just sold my 2016 Collings D-3 Custom (German top, Cocobolo back & sides) a couple of days ago. It took a year to get a buyer for it (it was expensive).

I've never owned a guitar that I wasn't willing to play out until I bought that one. It was too beautiful to risk a scratch and consequently got played very little.

That's foolish in my book, so I sold it on and freed up some cash for something else.

This. It went to a dad buying a gift for his daughter. Cool.

Default why did u sell your last guitar?

If, and when, I do sell the two I have been trying to sell (a custom Martin, and a PRS), the reason is simply that I need the funds for other, more important, things. I will still have more than I really need, these days.

Wasn't playing it anymore and wanted to free up the funds to try something new. I don't like holding onto things that don't get regular use...this is pretty my philosophy for everything I own.

I have not sold my LAST guitar. That is for my wife (or estate) to do after I'm gone. Reminds me of the old joke, "Have you lived here all your life? Not yet!"

But I have sold four guitars in the last 18 months or so. I would like to sell off two more Taylor's that no longer get much play time. Usually that is the reason. Every guitar was bought for a specific reason or purpose (body size, wood combination, etc) but eventually some go into semi-retirement. I'd rather have the storage space back.

There are two relatively inexpensive ones that will either get sold cheaply or gifted outright when / if someone deserving appears in my life.

I sold my Martin MMV, which was my first "nice" guitar purchase in January. I was thinking if I sold it for what I wanted, I'd have a good amount of "seed" money for a lifer guitar.

Needless to say, I now have a custom Furch supposed to be coming in these next few weeks after waiting for what seems like years for it to come in. (Cursed CITIES messing up all the shipments)

It had some issues like uneven frets & high nut from the factory that I didn't want to put extra money into to get fixed. Plus I found a different guitar with a much thinner neck profile which made playing so much easier for me.

I sell enough guitars from my collection to purchase my next one.

I've bought 14 guitars in the last 6 months.

So I've sold, sold, sold, bought, bought .................. sold.

Some thing like that.

Had one too many...

...and a friend needed a guitar to lead music at his church, so off it went!
