Show me some nice and/or unusual rosettes
I need ideas for my first build. I'm thinking of doing something either minimalistic or nontradtional.
BTW, has anybody ever employed wood burning as a decorative element on a guitar face? |

With my R Taylor i went with minimalist and seamless look. I think it turned out pretty well. I love it.
Wood rosette too. http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=181987

as in pyrography? Not on an acoustic but John Mayall used to do it all the time on his electrics. The closest i've seen is Michael Bashkin's gorgeous hot sand work.

Simple but it's one of my personal favorites. It matches the purfling.
Binding is brazilian. Purfling is black/white/black Curly Mahogany black/white/black I started doing this combination about 7-8 years back. I got the idea from Bruce Sexauer as I saw one he did with curly maple purfling. At any rate: |

I like Bashkin's "burned" rosettes for their simplicity ...
I really like this one that Don Sharp is working on for me ... I was also a fan of the Morgan Guitars "mosaic" rosette, though I don't know if they offer it anymore.

I was also always partial to mosaic rosettes -- here's the rosette on my L-07:

I've always considered the Eastman rosettes to be simple and elegant.
I think they used flamed maple on this one.

kwakatak, this is really good timing. I'm also working on my first build.
Are you planning on making your own rosettes, or buying premade? There's a bunch of sites that make some amazing ones that i've ran across.

I like this one on my Zimnicki -- simple and distinctive. An eccentric ring of bloodwood.

I like the rosettes that Kari Hahn does at Klath Guitars:

Hey Neal,
Since you asked for "unusual" this may bring back some memories? |
