Default NGD! D18 Content

NGD! Here is the one I've waited a long time for. I've never owned a D18 before. Shockingly competitive with much more expensive and highly esteemed guitars.

That D18 really sounds beautiful. I also agree with everybody about the back. It's really something special.

Make sure that little Santa drops by my house! I'd like a D18 myself.

Congrats and enjoy!

Gro-bro,

LAYAWAY MY AZZ! LOL!! ...I knew it as soon as we got off the phone, he ain't waitin', go get dat git! She looks and sounds amazing bro and mucho congrats mi amigo

So we are officially D18 bros...they are all that, in fact last week I almost bought a second one because it sounded so good. A local mom n pop has it for $1900 and sounds wonderful like the day I got mine back in 2014. But one is enough

Can't wait to gab about it with ya broheem!

Ummmm. Wow. Congrats on picking a winner!

You are absolutely right —the D-18 is a fantastic guitar at any price point. How do I not have one yet? I really need to do something about that.

Here's something that will make you go hmmm. I played my friends AMAZING D18A 1937 Martin Authentic ... then threw the new standard Martin D18 up against it. Well, the Authentic has a bass presence that is seductive and sweet. But the new D18? My goodness! It sounds wonderful. ..for Thousands less! ...and a friendlier neck profile ...and has a truss rod for adjustments that invariably occur with weather change.

Not to hijack my own thread, but here is the video A-B I made last night at my friends house:

D18A Authentic 1937 version versus Standard Martin D18. (He had new Lifespan strings. The Standard has Elixir NanoWeb PB's.)

Big Congrats Gary!! The flamed mahogany back on yours looks amazing!

As far as the D-18A vs D-18 comparo, I'm not going to lie... the bass presence of the Authentic is incredibly seductive. But the guitar is not 2k better than yours, and IMO, a Sitka topped guitar is way more versatile for strumming and singer songwriter duty than an Adi topped one.

They are really close in tone, and like you said, yours has the friendlier neck profile and an adjustable truss rod. I used to be ambivalent about adjustable truss rods until the past year, when I discovered that having as little relief as possible when combined with a medium-ish action of 6/64 and 4/64 provides for the most forgiving playability. It's not a deal breaker, but if given the choice, I'll take the guitar whose relief I can adjust.

Enjoy your new Martin!
