Archtops, semi-hollow, or electric?
Newbie here. I am looking to get my first plug in so need some guidance.
Not sure to get an archtop, semi-hollow, or electric. I am looking to play Santana, Eric Clapton, John Mayer and some blues solo. What do you guys recommend? I have heard great things about Gibson ES 335 and Eastman archtops. If electric, I am going with PRS. Have not owned an amp, I am worried I might get complaints from my neighbors for I live in an apartment. Cheers Leon |

You might want to either ask the moderator to move this thread to the the Electric Forum, or duplicate it over there - you'll get all the advice you need and then some...

Amp-wise, a nice 1-5w tube amp will give you a good sound at apartment volumes. Something like the Vox AC4 or Marshall Class 5 or Fender 57 Champ RI.
Guitar-wise, a 335-style guitar will give the most flexibility for a number of styles and be ideal for that bluesy sound. One option that you might not have considered is the Guild Starfire IV Newark St. Series. It reproduces that '60s feel in a new affordable build (made to spec in Korea.)

Get a Strat or a Tele and move the thread to electric.
