Love that cutaway join! Exquisite!
And excellent choice for binding. That would really go well with the black and white Ebony. Wow!

Dennis, we're actually thinking about doing the binding in Black Ebony, but possibly the purfling being red. In fact, the more I think about adding red to this design, the better I like it. Dark...rich red.

With all the pattern in the B&W Ebony, I can't see any binding other than Ebony there....to make a border or transition to the top and then you could use whatever purfling you wanted at that point, but anything with a grain in it would compete with the wild grain in the back and sides. This of course is all just my opinion and this is often completely WRONG!

Mike,
I thought I read this was going to be a SLOW build. Looks to me like it is moving along at a pretty good clip. I like the red purfling with the black binding. Travis |

I do think we've firmed up using some red with the black and white...a touch here, and a touch there just to "liven up" things a bit. It's really easy to overcook things so we're being careful not to overdue a good thing don't ya know

Thanks Brother.
I wanted that point on the cutaway to look just like an impossible bend. BTW the whole thing is assembled with contact cement, hence the progress

Thanks Nootis and thanks for the good advice. In fact I am typing this with my two little fingers which are the only ones still free.

That back and sides wood is outta this world gorgeous. I can't imagine there is much of that exquisite wood in the world. The final product is going to be mind-blowing.

Well, to say this treatment on the back has been "debated" would be an understatement lol. John and I discussed treatments for the back almost "ad nauseum". We thought of leaving it totally sapwood, adding various treatments of more or less of a backstrip, adding something between these segments, etc. etc. etc. This photo shows it just before we made it a permanent addition. After it was in place, John said "now I sort of wish we hadn't done anything at all". Ha! Ain't hindsight great?? lol
I guess the wonderful thing about wood is we could take it out, but I really wanted something back there and I think this will be fine. It has just a touch of some red which we'll tastefully carry into the front of the guitar. Merrily along we go...

Mike,
I think the backstrip will look great, especially with the red to tie everything together. I think it would have looked too plain without it, which its hard to believe I am saying that about that back. Its the GREEN square that has me puzzled! Travis |

Yes, when the guitar is finished the back strip will look great and show of the back wood even more. Can`t wait to see the finished guitar.
