Thanks Danny.

I could not agree with you more. I am very happy and very anxious to have it in my hands. Everything is coming together at the right time for me personally and I plan on many hours of joy with my Greta.

Default Bridge and Neck attached

We'll have the strings on soon. Here is the neck and bridge getting glued up and we have the tuners and truss rod cover in place;

Thanks for viewing,
Mark

Great to see this amazing guitar coming to completion. I'm sure Daniel is a wee bit excited! Do you register the bridge in place with pins or something else so it doesn't slide when gluing?

Yes, I use two Teflon pins to hold the alignment.

Default Greta 13 Fret

Hi Danny.

The months have been passing by and I have really enjoyed following the build process. This is my first custom build and I will have watched the progress through three sets of eyes.

For the first few months the reality of actually having a custom build of my own had not sunk in and I was just an interested observer. Finishing and final assembly snapped me out of my 3rd person role and I am now viewing as a proud ( and privileged ) owner of a Hatcher guitar. And soon I will be viewing my Greta ( in my hands ) as a musician.

daniel

PS I think I should add that my flip flopping on what I like and don't like has tested Marks patience....... ( especially lately ) but he is a pretty cool guy and should survive. LOL LOL

Hey, All-I have two Mark Hatcher guitars in my basement guitar room right now, just like the one in this thread (the new Greta model) but with a more traditional headstock. Man, if your guitar turns out to be anything like the two Mark built for me, you're going to be one happy guitarist. The guitars are very light, beautifully designed and constructed. I'd say a Hatcher guitar has a very penetrating, dynamic presence, a lot of volume. I'm learning some elementary Bach pieces (if there is such a thing), and I use my Hatcher guitars because they are so comfortable and easy to get around on. I'll be interested to read of your experiences when your guitar finally arrives. You won't be disappointed, I assure you. Best, Jack

That wenge looks really amazing under finish--I look forward to hearing your impressions once you receive it. Congrats!

Default Final Touches

Here are a couple final touch items for setting up the guitar. We're going with woolly mammoth ivory for the nut, saddle, and bridge pins. This is a little softer than regular bone and opinions vary wildly on whether different compositions make a tonal difference. So, if it does make a difference, the thought is that the Sitka and Wenge combination has plenty or brightness and the ivory could help round it out a bit, you know, if it makes a difference that is

Also we have a picture of the pick-up system which is the K&K Pure Mini. It's a good set-up that helps capture some of the body tones that under the saddle pick ups sometimes miss.

Thanks for following along. Strings are going on soon!

Mark
