A nice rosette- comments?
I'm trying to decide what to do for a rosette in a small classical guitar I'm
making, and happened upon this one, by the Korean maker Woon Sun Lee, which is very pleasing to me for its balance of activity and calm: https://www.guitarsalon.com/producti...1255-large.jpg Any comments/opinions would be appreciated. I have no affiliation with the maker or with GSI. |

I like it very much and my advice is to trust your own judgement.

I'd like it a lot more without the green accents - never been a big fan. I once played a custom guitar at Elderly that was very nice, but it had green dyed top purfling and it just stood out like crazy.
Just my 2 cents....

There is a lot going on in that design.

When I first saw your photo my first thought was "Oh, I LIKE that bit of green with the rather "dusty" earthtones!..

I personally like the touch of green; adds to earthy, but alive! But it depends on what's going on with the rest of the guitar, trim woods, etc.

For a classical, it is very nice. I like it!

I like it but wouldn't copy it exactly, rather use it as a guide for something more personal.
But it doesn't matter what any of us think, it's your guitar, do what makes you happy. However, now you have brought it to our attention you will have to show the finished article - that's the law |

I don't like tradition looking classical rosettes. They are often too wide and busy for my taste although I do respect the skill and detail involved.
That said, the rosette that you picture above is very attractive to me. I like everything about it especially the light splash of green.

I personally like it, although I wouldn't choose it for one of mine. But, for a classical, it certainly is a nice look. I too would want to change it a bit to a similar but original design.

Thanks very much to all who have posted. I was wanting to understand why
I liked Mr. Lee's rosette, partly through hearing others' opinions of it. I do like the green, and the 'dusty earth tones' (thanks for that description!) in direct contrast are part of that. My vision is ok, but I do not 'see' as well as many others, I think. What I will make will be less complex, and not a copy. If my rosette comes out ok I will post it and the finished guitar when they're done. |
