Default Help choosing Honduran set

Officially decided to go with Kopp for a small bodied guitar. I’m doing his RJ size with Honduran rosewood for back and sides - top TBD.

He sent me these two sets that said would sound absolutely exceptional. I tend to like the grain of the more figured set (back has a bit more going on and sides are super unique), but the more straight grained is absolutely gorgeous and more color matched. Both sets he thinks are from around the 80s and are straight grain quarter sawn.

What’s everyone’s thoughts?

I'd go for the straight-grained set! As you mentioned, better color-match with just enough variation in the grain for some interest. I'm sure it will sound wonderful either way!

I really like that straight grained back. When playing you’ll be seeing the side, and it’s providing a nice aesthetic.

Definitely #12 if it were me, I’d be much happier with the grain and color match.

I'm a fan of #12 too. The back has plenty going on and the colour match is way better.

Definitely think I am leaning towards 12 too. Especially after looking at a handful of completed guitars with nice straight grained rosewood.

While both would be lovely, the straight-grained set gets my vote.

If it were me, I'd go with the straight grain. That said, I'd trust the builder that both are good sound pieces and go with what *you* like!

Good eye...
Can't go wrong with either. I agree with the majority here. That straight grain is stunning.

Piling on here—go with #12. You’ll be glad you did.

Tunnel tones redwood for the top chosen this week!

For those that don’t know, Kevin actually cuts these for them, and gets to keep his favorites from the lots.

Pretty excited to combine these together.

Alright…..I’m with these fellas….the straight grain set would be my choice as well…..as I’ve mentioned before, my Kopp RJ is the last guitar I’d ever part with…..that Redwood top looks amazing, are you gonna go natural with that?……hard to pass on a Kopp burst eh?
