Default Do you have a "short list" ?

Well, I thought this would be an entertaining post, to see how people are thinking. or maybe not, we’ll see.. the question I’m asking today is this: Do you have a “short list”, so to speak?

I find myself referring to mine quite a lot. I have a rough idea of what I want to add to my fledgling collection, and *roughly* in what order. It changes slightly here and there, but has a rough framework that I think is solid and will stay basically the same or similar. So here is mine:

1. The guitar I’m saving for now. 614ce. I have only 2 dreads, no electronics or cutaways, so this is my first small step down in body size and adding the cutaway and electrics. Huge fan of the maple, the aesthetics, the voice after the Andy Powers changes, etc. Briefly entertained swapping out this pick for a Furch/Stonebridge with the same body style.

2. Martin M36. I like the m36 because of its dimensions, the 3pc back is pleasing, and just like the sound overall. Will explore more into this area, as I could see replacing it with another 000/OM size guitar...but this one I have my eye on.

3. Nylon crossover. Haven’t played any of the Taylor nylons, but intend to soon. I go to Guitar Center at least once a week just to play two guitars on their classical wall, a cheap Lucero, and the ~$800 Cordoba Fusion Orchestra CE. beautiful wood, finish, and nylon sound.

4. 2017 Taylor 314ce Ltd with Tasmanian blackwood/lutz. Haven’t played one, but in love with the idea and wood pairing.

5. Parlor or 0/00 size. Top of this list is a Wee Lowden; I’ve yet to come across one local to Houston that I’ve been able to play. Limited to drooling when they come in the classifieds. Also like some custom Martin 00s, but usually a bit out of my price range when they’re coming from the custom shop.

6. Goodall. I watched a youtube video, a long one, detailing their whole process and their shop.. decided right there, that I will own one of their guitars one day. This is last on my list because it’s the furthest away in terms of my being able to afford it.

I’m sure I’m missing something, but for right now, this will suffice. This is my short list.. of course subject to change. My long list.. well.. haven't really got there yet..

So, do you have a short list? Long list? Changes to be made?
Cheers
SC

I think having a plan is a great idea. I need to start playing more shows before I can follow through on my plan of having 2 of everything.

I don't have a ton of guitars right now, but one of them is a 614ce. It's my favorite out of any guitar I've ever owned, and out of most that I've ever played. I plan to get another one, or maybe an 814, but I haven't found the one yet. The 614 is an amazing guitar, and I'm glad to see it's first on your list!

Ahhh, the one that got away. It pains me to see...as I have been there. You, sir, should get that Dove. And I will have my Candy apple red American strat. Good times. Should be added that on the bottom of my short list, right above the goodall.

Short list?

I don’t plan to buy another guitar ever again unless it has the word “Goodall” or “Gibson” in it.

none at all. that doesn't mean that if i run into a good deal on something that i'll pass it up. i recently purchased 5 brand name ukuleles for $500, with one of them retailing for $589 itself. i wasn't even thinking ukulele when i saw the ad.

play music!

I have a year old 414ce-r which was (is) my first "good" guitar. I still love playing it and don't really have any plans to add or replace, however.......
As my playing gets better and I've become more informed about guitars (thanks everyone here!) I have had the urge to play some guitars from the next level so to speak.
I want to play: Collings, Santa Cruz, Bourgeois,Huss & Dalton, Lowden and Godall (saw that video too and was inspired) .
Froggy's may be just a little beyond what I could justify (but you never know).
Anyway - I'd love to play some of those and see if they would be worth the cost to me. I have no clue since I've never had the opportunity.

My list is very short. Hmmm, what should I start with?

I can relate to making the jump to the "next level", definitely. I would also add to the bottom of my list a custom shop Martin, probably OM or 00/000.. as well as a custom build from, say, a Wingert, Ryan, Wren, etc. Or countless others. But I'm trying to keep it in the realm of the halfway semi-near future, so.. also why Froggy and SCGC dont appear, hence "short" list. thanks to all who replied
