Default T5 and T5z - side by side.

We did a comparison video to show the side by side differences between the Taylor T5 and new T5z. Just pay no attention to my playing - it was FREEZING in there.

Chirs,

Nice review. I have a T5 Koa top. I played a T5z a few weeks ago throught a SWR California Blonde and was impressed. The only issue I have using it to replace my Strat when I need electric and acoustic guitars on gig is the lack of a whamy bar on the T5. However, I always consider the T5 as my back up if I break a string or my Strat fails. I prefer the size/shape of the T5z. If I didn't have a T5 I'd buy the T5z in a heartbeat. Too much love and memories with the T5, to replace it now and at $3K adding the T5z is out of reach.

I hear ya. The T5z really does have a nice feel to it, but I do still like the original T5 as well. I'm going to add one to my collection soon for the reasons mentioned in the video but I'm conflicted about which one I will get.

Another thought. Who needs a tremolo when you can just flex the neck J/K

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your review. How is the neck on the T5z? Is it pretty much the same as a Taylor acoustic (admittedly electric-like already), or more like an electric? Is there an electric neck (Strat, Les Paul custom, etc.) that you would compare it to?

Thanks!

More like a Les Paul than a Strat. Flatter radius than most Strats (12" vs 9.5"). It is a shallow c carve that is not unlike their acoustic guitars - maybe a bit thinner. I just A/B'd it with a Les Paul and it'sv ery similar. So is the silhouette to be honest but of course the top is flat, it's hollow and it's so light it's libel to float away.

The Jumbo frets make it feel like the Les Paul, great guitar.

Default T5z

I played a T5z through a Carr Sportsman today and came away very impressed. Loved the small size and light weight. Also played the T3-B which I had expected to really tempt me, but after playing the T5z it felt huge and heavy. The T5z and all the quality one can expect from a Taylor ( I own 2 already) and I think they will sell a lot of these. It's funny because I wasn't attracted to the original iteration of this model.
