Default busking workhorse

Alvarez AP-70. They were around $400 new, so a used one for $150-200 seems likely. I have one and it's a truly remarkable sounding, and since having it professionally setup, easy, easy playing guitar. 1 3/4"nut. Solid spruce top, lam rosewood back and sides. Solid construction, and it even looks good.

Acoustic Guitar magazine has a youtube demo out there that will give you a pretty clear idea of what its about.

Happy hunting.

If I could get away with a 1 3/4" nut on a FG series Yamaha, I'd be a happy camper... The S35 by Jasmine sounds good, but too many mixed reviews...

The SilverCreeks do have a 1 3/4 nut width. I used to have one.

Good luck finding one at that price. $300 is more realistic.

Well, thanks everyone for all of their input. Does anyone else have any other ideas? Anybody have experience with Alvarez 1 3/4"? I hear Road King has the string spacing much smaller than expected for a 1.75 nut (I read their problem is at the saddle).

If I had money for a Seagull S6 or a Yamaha L series, I'd go for it, but $200 is the max!

What about this? Also comes in folk-size. 1.72 nut.

I had something similar a few years ago in the dread size. This seems to be the current version.

I think the OP specified 1.75 nut width.

Precisely. I guess the S35 is the best option for cheap 1 3/4 nut.

Thanks everyone.

Seagull excursion fits requirements pretty close, but not quite.
Sorry. Its probably a better quality guitar than your current options.

It could have worked, and is most likely a much better quality, but unfortunately is out of my budget. S35 still looks great. Plus, I would probably fare better with a cheap laminate like the S35.

Just be aware that there can be different string spacing on 1.75 nut width guitars. For some that is more important than the actual nut width.

My first guitar has a 1.75 nut width so when I was looking to upgrade I thought that was all I need to think about. Bought the guitar and was shocked to find that the string spacing was narrower than my previous guitar. Lesson learned.

Lucky man. I've looked, but they area all $499 used, the same price as some new ones. But these are 1. Way too nice to take out busking and 2. Out of my price range.

Like I said earlier, it's too bad all of Yamaha's F and FG series are all 11 11/16". Harder to do anything to a smaller neck like that also.

True, although I see it easier to work with a wider neck and nut like that as opposed to modifying a less wide neck with a smaller (1 11/16") nut.

People say the S35 has more space to work with if one was to modify the string spacing on the nut (making a new nut with wider string spacing)
