I vote zebra--the figure is offset by the additional purfling you've added, and it just seems to have more pop to my eye.

Well, I still vote Koa. How about a fourth choice though....abalone? I think the abalone looks incredible on the dark tops even if it is not anywhere else.

Funny you'd mention that lol. John said something about that too. Paua looks good with everything. We wanted to do this one without since the last guitar we built had so much of it. But, I do like the idea. I'll be interested to hear what others thing about the wood ideas

Is there a 4th option.....?

While I love all those purfling choices they seem to get lost in the sinker.

My vote would be for curly maple purfling with think black on either side, that would be a nice contrast to the sinker redwood...... but that's just me.

By the way, John that is an awesome looking rosette!

Yes, john told me that earlier today. We should talk sometime. That Braz OM is one of the best guitar tonally I've ever had in my hands. And it gets better and better every day!

Mike, with what you have there, I like the Koa best. I think the ones with lines in it clash a bit with the striations in the Sinker top when going in a different direction than those striations. The Koa appears to have less figure, competes less and stands out more. Just my nickel. I'm sure they'll all look awesome on the completed guitar.

of the three i have settled on this one for the following reasons:
The koa is the wrong color, it really does not compliment anything but the rosette. The coco is the right color but really too close. The dark top needs relief with a little lightness which the zebra provides while keeping the same theme. i am attracted by the way the zebra wood seems to take the top striations and bend them outward like a bent reflection in water. it radiates the lines rather than fighting with them. Plus i think it looks cool and will probably repeat that look elsewhere, perhaps on the fingerboars. Thats my 2 cents.

for now anyway.

I'm impressed with all of the comments and I can see everyone's point and appreciate the comments and suggestions. I think I've come to the conclusion that the best opinion is probably that of the trusted builder "Dr John" . He is the only one who has the ability to see the entire project vs all of the rest of us who can only see a "snippet".

So, I'm going with John...Zebra it is
