Final word on Linear Array PA's as of August 2020
So, finally getting to the point of laying down some cash for a new PA.
At this moment, based on research, availability here in Australia, and price point, I'm currently locked on the LD Systems Maui 28 G2. Talk me out of it, or tell how great my deduction skills are??!!

I compared a few of such "wannebe" line arrays about 2 years ago and the Maui G28 worked quite well. Still I thought the RCF Evox 8 sounded better, was lighter and can be stored and carried in one single bag.
RCF really put their own fantastic speaker chassis in such a little box. Still there is nothing wrong with the Maui! Your deduction skills are great, but maybe not perfect! :-)

I played through a pair of these at an event last year, and was very impressed. There was also another acoustic soloist playing, a string quartet, and a fashion parade with plenty of "doof doof" music. They covered all styles of music very well, and filled the large exhibition hall with ease.
When life gets back to some kind of normal, and gigs return, I'm thinking seriously about getting a pair. |

Oh, sorry!
They are just about 10% apart here in Europe.

Haha, welcome to the stuffed world of Australia!!
Some brands are near identical in price, others are so far away from each other, you wonder what on earth happened!!

Do you know where the crossover
Is in hz on the sub..? The reason I ask Is I find they are generally too low For acoustic guitar. You'll get some drop d And some overtones. Also I think arrays tend to get harsh when pushed. I've never heard the Maui. Just the bose stuff. Just trying to talk you out of it..LOL.. |

I've scoured the specifications manual for the Maui 28, and can't find any info on the hz range for just the Sub. The overall unit covers 45-20,000hz, but doesn't break it down any further. It has a Hi-Z input for the acoustic guitar built in, but I'll be using my Yamaha MG10XU mixing desk for all of the connections anyway, and I have the Hi-Z covered with that.

Yep, the 28s. The tech providers were using a Soundcraft desk as well.

I've only heard the Maui 11 in person, and was quite impressed, so I'm hoping the 28 will be that much better. Thanks for the feedback!

I've used the Maui 11s for a for years now and still love them (I have two but only use both for bigger venues or outside). We are a duo with one acoustic guitar and two vocals. So for what we are doing, more big low end thump is just not needed. I actually love the tight low end the Maui 11 provides with its three x 6 1/2" sub drivers. I'd assume the two 8" sub drivers in the 28 would still be nice and tight?

I have no personal experience but love the specs and have seen an immense amount of support for this system on the AGF over the years. Wow, that's a lot of tweeters! I'm impressed.

Have read the RCF Evox J8 at $1,000 is a top contender.
Haven't heard it myself. Nice 12 inch subwoofer, needs an external mixer. How about the EV 30? |
