strings for J-45
Looking for a set of strings for my J-45 standard that will screech a lot less when I slide my bare fingers across them. I finally got an amp, and the sound has now moved into the obnoxious realm. Any recommendations?

Elixirs dont screetch but I hate the tone of them, waay to bright and metallic sounding.
I prefer warmer PB's for my SJ like Pyramid Western Classics or DR Sunbeams, 12's in both cases.

I use elixir light PBS on all my hog guitars.
They start off bright but get better with age. Plus you don't have to change string every week.

Try D'Addario J-17s and have your J-45 set up well. All you need and they sound better than the coated D'Ads.
IME a well honed J-45 sings with medium gauge (13s). |

Gibwr, when I owned my Gibson WM-45, (which is essentially just a natural finish J-45,) I used John Pearse phosphor bronze mediums on it. That set worked well for me on that instrument.
I also use them on the Gibson Advance Jumbo (AJ) that I more or less replaced the WM-45 with. The AJ has the same body shape and size as the J-45, but with a longer scale length and a different bracing pattern underneath the top. Anyway, you might want to try a set of the John Pearse phosphors, in whichever gauge you prefer. Full disclosure: I'm a John Pearse artist endorser, but that's because I truly think they're the best-sounding strings on the market. They sure work well for me. Hope this helps. I'll second the John Pearse phosphors for tone (I have them on my AJ and love 'em) - don't know if the screeching will be helped though.

Elixirs will definitely cut down on string squeak.
