NGD: Guild F-512 Tacoma circa 2000
Well, sometimes the unbelievable happens. I went to buy some strings and walked out with a circa 2000 Guild F-512 with a slim neck, in mint condition, plastic still on the pick gaurd, no fret wear, and it is the most impressive 12 string or any number of string jumbo guitar I’ve played, period. It’s like a rumble like no other.
I’m still in a bit of a fog. My wife was with me. I was home getting ready for a gig and playing a new song I wrote on 12 string D to D tuning called “Free Man Waltz.” She asked who wrote it because she really liked it. She thought it was the Avett Brothers or Ray LaMotagne who she knows I like. I said “me.” “But I’m a little nervous because it’s a big gig and I’m struggling with the Larrivee 12 string a little.” She said let’s go for a drive. We went for coffee and then stopped at our local music store. The store had taken in 3 or 4 vintage 12 strings recently. One strum on the Guild tuned D to D and my wife looked at me like “shut up, don’t gush, just make a deal.” Same look she gave me at the car dealer the few times we’ve done that together. I walked out with the Guild. I had no idea they made them with skinner necks in Tacoma. It has the DTAR plug and play pickup. Wow! It’s ugly, but sounds really great. Again, still in shock, but I feel like this came my way for a reason.

My favorite Guilds were built in Tacoma, WA. You're gonna LOVE that one to death!

Nothing ugly about that guitar.
Congrats! Seems like it's raining F512s around here - I picked up one myself last week. It sounds like the 12 string I heard in my head before I got it.

Yes, I will be happy to send it to a good home. Only have room for one 12 string and my wife will be pleased. [emoji3]

Holy Cow! Your 2nd Guild F-512! I'm glad it has a skinnier neck to help you out.
My F-512 was built in 2014 in California and it has a single trussrod and a skinnier neck. Maybe that's why I get along with mine so well. Good for you, Dave! Live long and prosper! - Glenn

Thanks Glenn! I’m thrilled to have found this one with the thinner neck. I presumed they were all the same. It was pretty shocking when I picked this one up. I’d heard talk of the truss rods and necks but had never seen a thinner one in the wild.

Congrats and Welcome to "Club F-512"
Now you know what all the buzz is all about, and why we F-512 owners always cheer people on, whom are 12 string hunting, to take a good hard look into the F-512 if they can in any way afford it. They are truly iconic for a reason...and...they are GREAT guitars no matter where Guild made them...Hoboken, Westerly, Corona, Tacoma, New Hartford, or now Oxnard, and I fully expect Yamaha to carry on the tradition with them going forward. duff Be A Player...Not A Polisher |

So cool Dave! Great find, I've always liked Guild 12 strings. I had a 70s F212 that was great but the neck was chunky. The thinner neck is key!
Happy for you, congrats and enjoy it. BTW is that a Cordoba tenor in the corner? If so, how do you like it?

Yes, that’s the cordoba Tenor! A gift from my wife. I like it a lot. It plays well, sounds good. I put a twin spot pickup in it and it worked out well. I’d like to get myself an Eastman mandolin too, just to switch things up occasionally.

Thanks! I'll need to investigate the Cordoba. I have an Ohana Tenor with a spruce top and would like to get a mhaogany tenor to compliment it.
