Do you like your job?
So, do you like your job? If you're retired, do you enjoy retirement (stupid question, of course you do). Any jobs you've had that you hated? Loved?
I've been in IT the past 20 years and I enjoy it. Great career. |

dru: when my dad retired, people asked him if he wasn't bored with life. his response was, " i don't know how i ever found time to go to work."
i'm the same way. i've tested and repaired some of my 28 amps and have built two 58 deluxe clones that are fantastic. i've repaired 10 of my friends amps for the price of parts only and have done setups of my electric guitars as well as some of my friends. i still have tons of projects to do including digitizing my cds and vhs music and video tapes, and, checking out and repairing 15 radios. i should have started this stuff years ago as i probably will not finish everything i need to finish. not enough time!!! i was a workers' comp adjuster and grew to hate the job due to $$$$ being involved from every angle. play music!

I love my job. I have it good, but the first month of retirement, 3 years from now, is starting to look attractive. I'll probably be bored silly after that.

I’ve had a couple of careers: Building Construction and Higher Education. I enjoyed both careers very much. I’ve been retired for a couple of years and that suits me fine too. Call me Mr. Easy.

I've spent the last 17 years with the same company, the last few years in procurement/supply chain. I'm on a great team, do just enough travel to keep it interesting, and have a great deal of flexibility and balance between my job and my personal life. The company has been great and takes good care of its people - great benefits, extra perks (on-site primary health care, physical therapy, pharmacy, gym and, most importantly, bakery), plenty of time off.
All that said, I'd much rather own my own guitar or bike shop. Heck, make it a guitar/bike shop. That serves coffee. A guitar/bike/coffee shop. Austin |

Best job I had was as a Product Marketing Manager for General Dynamics. Traveled all the time, spent two weeks a month in Southern California, and worked with people like Kodak, Polaroid, Dupont, Fuji and others.
Our customers were very interesting and I got to visit all sorts of high security areas. The LDS Church has/had their main data center couple hundred feet under a mountain. Got to see the first Apache helicopters being tested along with A-10's doing target practice with their GOW guns. Got to see recently de-classified film made by Polaroid for high altitude recon. From several mikes up, you could read a newspaper headline. If we traveled as late as Thursday, and would be traveling the following week, they didn't want us flaying home for the weekend if it was out of the way so they would let us stay weekends in any resort between out destinations. I was younger then and it was a blast. |

I have been working in kitchens since my teens, from pot washer to exec chef to Food service manager (though I prefer the chef gig). It's a wonderful job.......most of the time.
However, I recently took time off due to my 5 month old girl, and to record and gig. Though the music is starting to pay dividends (breaking even now) it does not give me the financial freedom that the food service gig gives me. But spending time with my wife and baby girl as well as the chance to play music every day gives me the ultimate job satisfaction.

Current job? Yes. I could happily do this for another 20 years.
Previous: Philosophy professor: Loved it. Middle and High School science teacher: Loved it. Worship pastor: Loved it. Managing a mid-sized tech firm: 2 years of living hell (although my misery there is why I made the leap to buy a guitar store)

I love what my current job, and those that preceded it, have provided for my family and I through the years. There have been times when I've absolutely loved my work, and times when I've loathed it.
Now, I'm in pretty good shape for retirement in a year or two, and it's becoming a struggle of endurance over ambition. One month at a time, one month at a time... I never, ever, lose sight of how fortunate I have been.

I spent most of my life in a steel shop....a large global company....two years ago I had the chance to become a service advisor for an automotive repair shop! I absolutely loved the job...woke up every morning wanting to go to work. I'm no longer there because of a business venture that failed....I hope to land something similar again!

One of the great things about the Army is that you have a different job every 2 or 3 years. I only hated one of them but still learned a lot in it. Can't say as much about the job I took after I retired. I hated it, but stayed for 5 years because I committed to that when I took the job. As to retirement . . . come on in. The water's fine.
