Happy 77th Emmylou.
She's been an inspiration to many, not least younger female singer guitarists.

Met her twice - weak in the knees both times!

Our band was supposed to open for Emmylou in Dallas back in 1980 (maybe '81?). We cancelled all our gigs for 6 weeks prior to that (we were playing 5 - 6 nights a week) and practiced for hours almost every night for the 6 weeks prior to the show on 45 minutes of original music. Man, we had it down TIGHT.

We showed up at the venue (The Palladium) the day of the gig only to be told by Emmylou's manager that they'd had trouble with their PA the night before in Houston, and they'd be using the house PA - which left enough channels for us to go on as a 3 piece group (vs. the 5 piece we were). We turned them down and they hired a comedian to open the show. Bummer.

But I got to finally meet her backstage a couple years ago in Nashville and she was so very very kind. What a lovely soul.

We saw her at Avetts at the Beach a few years ago and she was out on the beach playing wiffleball with everyone.
