Default MXL 990 Condenser Microphone on sale at G.C.

Does anyone have experience with this Chinese made condenser mic?
It seems that the consensus is that it is a bit on the warm side but it is on sale for $59.99 at Guitar center. I'm debating purchasing one to record solo acoustic material, perhaps some vocal too.

These aren't bad stock but if you can solder go to http://microphone-parts.com/ and look over their replacement capsules and circuit boards. They can turn the 990 into an absolutely wonderful mic.

$60 is a good price. Thanks for posting. I'm going to pick up a couple that I can modify.

No affiliation. Happy customer.

You don't have to get in a hurry, MF has MXL LDCs on sale (sometimes cheaper) fairly regularly.

If you have no prior experience with LDCs make sure that a "deal" also includes a shock mount. The shock mount will increase the cost considerably if it isn't included. You'll also need a pop filter to put out in front of the mic if you're going to do vocals with it. You can actually damage the mic with plosives that aren't shielded from the diaphragm. (No, the screen doesn't protect against this.)

Thanks for the tip... just bought one. More than decent mic for the dollar, I mean 64.00 after tax, free shipping, shock mount and a case?? Not bad at all.
