A perfect fit of colurs both in woods and stone ! …and a very nice and symmetric set of bearclaw spruce… I like that “character” of a top a lot, but I know others like it plain and white :-)

Thanks Lonzo. I like the character of the top too. I also like plain and white tops and I would hope people have the ability to like both as appropriate to the overall look of the guitar.

The most striking thing about the look of this guitar is the color combinations and the textures of the natural materials used.
The shapes of the inlays are intentionally simple and repetitive.
They blend with the basic body shape:

The bulbous curved shapes create the background for the strong colors and textures.
If this guitar had a pure clean white top those inlays would look like juvenile polka dots and the whole look would completely fall apart.

Amazing how this has all come into fruition in just three weeks! Do you take time to eat? Sleep?

Mark, I feel tremendous admiration and respect for you, your Craft abilities, and your superlative aesthetic sensibilities. You always mange to strike that perfect balance, where nothing needs to be added, nor subtracted; and the whole of your creation achieves that delicate confluence of form and function, rendered in such satisfying proportion and elegance. Even though your designs often have elements of visual extravagance, you always manage to achieve a Zen simplicity. That is not easy to do, but for you, it seems as easy as breathing.

Thanks fpuhan, I’ve been planning this build for almost a year. The woods were already selected, tuners and case purchased etc. I didn’t start the build thread until I had actually been building the guitar for a couple weeks.
When I concentrate my building on a basic guitar without a cutaway or bevels I can have it ready for finish in two weeks. On this guitar I am spending considerable time on the stonework and other features but it is coming along well.

Thanks Steve! I appreciate your kind words.

Default End Graft

I've been putting the end graft together. Here is a picture of the woods involved:

Snakewood, B-W-B and Blue Stain White Pine purflings and Rhodochrosite Stone Inlays

Here's how it is coming out:

Default Binding

With the end graft in place it is time to do the body binding. I am using Snakewood for the binding with black-white-black purfling along with Blue Stain White Pine.

We will start with selecting and cutting the binding sticks. Snakewood is a top tier binding wood. Snakewood is hard, bends well and is a beautiful wood.

I am hand planing the final dimensions because the figure will show better, the cut dimensions will be more accurate and most importantly a planed surface makes a stronger glue joint.

And on it goes

You can see the teflon strips I'm using to hold the space which I will be filling with the Blue Satin White Pine afterwards

Thanks nuhobby, I’m a big fan of that little hand plane too! It’s a very accurate way to thickness small parts and it leaves a surface that glue really sticks to.

Default Fretboard

I've got the Snakewood fretboard started. It is bound in Snakewood with Blue Stain White Pine purfling. I also cut and set the Rhodochrosite stones at the 12th fret.
